Dude gets all the free gear he wants and doesn't bother to use it. What a waste!

It's obvious that Honnold's feats are a big step above what Bachar and Croft have accomplished. That in no way dimishes their achievments. Look at climbing across the board and you will see tremendous advances in everything from speed ascents on El Cap and the Eiger to free climbing standards. Every generation builds on the one before it. Croft, Bachar and others showed the way and Honnold took it to the next level. Who knows what the future will bring?

Moosedrool,

How old were you, when you left Poland?

I have an old friend who lives in the UK, who has gone on multiple trips with Kurtyka.

Watching BOTH his feet slip at the same time on Equinox was a bit unsettling.
Bomber locks I guess.

His control of his mind is stronger than his physical strength, IMO.

That's saying a lot too, as the dude is mutant strong.

Compartmentalizing (sp) fear is a very real thing, and he excels at it.

Or, is he just so good that he's not afraid?

Not sure, but I'm impressed.

Keep living!

You know he's eyeing El Capitan.

Be careful, Alex!

I walked to the base of that rig--all the kid's bolts are rusted out, Alex probably felt safer soloing.

OK man, joking. That is a Sick, sick thing.

Or, is he just so good that he's not afraid?

That doesn't wash. We have all seen him climb. He's pretty normal in most regards. Or, I should say, he's a normal abnormal-superhuman.

He sees small features on the rock and places his appendages on them and moves up. Quite simple, really. (Moose)

Thank you, Moose. I was truly baffled.

Hey John, second time we're next to each other in this thread. I certainly paid attention to you back in the day. Now we're both watching Honnold. I always want to say something about this soloing stuff, but what can you say? Climbing and the human ego mix like oil and water......so don't mix them.....just climb! Haha!

That's a beautiful piece of rock.

Im with Ed Drummond on this one. Every time I read another 'Honnold done it' thread I feel more saddness than admiration. :(

Quiet a feat no doubt (I climbed an 11b top ropped in the gym once - just to put things in perspective) ... but the trend line is disturbing.

What saddens me is people putting their fears and limitations on other people.

Ever blow a tire out going 75mph?

Ever have a rope cut when you're jugging up it?

Ever break your neck trying to do a back flip on a moto?

Sh#t happens. Live your life how ever you want.

I will repeat myself, unbidden.

Discussions like this could potentially mess with someone's brain.

If someone then pays a price, how are you going to feel?
