Who the F*** is Lance Bass.
Fattrad, another link to an objective source (MEMRI) I see. I am sure a couple of google or so searches would find out who is behind MEMRI's primary funding.
Remember non-profit doesn't mean they only solicit funds from the average Joe Blow.
But you knew that, didn't you.
NOTE: We are a 501(c)3 status organization, therefore your donations to The Middle East Media Research Institute are tax-deductible.
Gawd, there is so much BS on the internet. From every direction.

are you proud of this thread?
hey i have a suggestion- why don't you ask a muslim, face to face, this very same question? what? you don't really know any muslims?
well then i guess you can't really ask them, can you. not unless you sought one/them out. that's an interesting idea- what would you ask, exactly? i mean, what exactly would you say?
i wonder if the answers you would get would suprise you?
i feel confident that the answers you would get, given the choice of a patient muslim, one who would be willing to start from scratch w/ you, would be educational, at least from a cultural perspective.
i also feel confident that no one on supertopo will be learning anything on this thread.

I hate to get suck into this... must resist... aagghh!
I can't help myself.
The title itself leaves itself open to mockery.
"Why are muslims involved in so many conflicts in the World?"
Is like asking "why do people eat so many oranges?" except less intellegent and more offensive.
The tacit assumption inherent within, I'm assuming, is that muslims are involved in a disproportionate number of military or paramilitary action, and have a causality link between thier muslim-ness and that disporportionate involvement.
If that is not what you are implying, then the question could be answered simply:
1. Muslims are human beings.
2. There are human beings that are in conflict.
Therefore, it is reasonable to understand that
3. Some muslims will be involved in conflict.
(I realize this is an oversimplification, e-mail me if you want the full proof. t_joke@yahoo.com)
If you are implying that the mulsims are disproportionately involved, and that is somehow linked to which religion they follow. If that is the case, I think you have muslims confused with the United States, which turns this into a different argument entirely. I would be open to some kind of evidence to support the idea that muslims (as a group, under the idealogy and direction of muslim leaders) are disproportionately involved in conflicts in the world, before a discussion is had on the circumstances surrounding said phenomenom.
Feel free to continue making poorly thought out blanket statments on the subject without backing up your claims in any way, shape or form.
Honestly, I'm dissapointed with this discussion. Usually people on this site put careful consideratiojn into their opinions before explaining them. For shame.

Juan, that is one of the most positive things I have ever seen you write.
Although I recently listened to a report about the history of Zen Buddhists; they too were fanatical; one of the main principles was to never question orders/commands, even if it meant killing thousands...

Then you would surely agree that, as a buddhist would say, your open hatred of christians, jews and muslims is ugly and poisonous, and grows from a root of ignorance.
It is this hatred of others that causes wars.

WoodySt, but what if I am looking in the opposite direction?
Fattrad, perhaps there is much truth or reality to that article, but do we really want to turn the Muslim world against us just to further the neo-con agenda. I know you think that it is inevitable that there will be a clash of cultures/civilizations/religions, but I don’t see such an inevitability.
Fattrad, this is what your people have been planning – not for peace but for war.
A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm
http://www.iasps.org/strat1.htm
Call me an idealist (I am, and a dreamer) but I think that if we all tried to bridge the gap that the divide will stop growing larger. Try to understand the other side, whether they are enemy or friend. Establish a better dialogue with the moderates so as to give less ammo to the extremists.
There are moderates in the Islamic world. I have met, worked and partied with a number of moderate Muslims, primarily in Britain, but in France, the States and here in Ireland. To the best of my knowledge none of them are anti-American or radicals. But start attacking their culture and religion and I wonder how they would react. How would you?
It is understandable that Israel, being surrounded by unfriendly countries, wants to secure its survival, but I think there are too many extremists in Israel who, just like the extremists Muslims, don’t want to get along with the other side and see them as lower class human beings. They sure treat the Palestinians that way (as do a number of Arab countries).
This link from an Irish Examiner article today with some extracts below:
http://www.irishexaminer.com/breaking/story.asp?j=224578080&p=zz45789yx&n=224578993&x=
“This war must stop, or it will radicalise the Muslim world, even those of us who are moderate today,” said Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who leads the world’s most populous Muslim country.
“From there, it will be just one step away to that ultimate nightmare: a clash of civilisations,” he added.
Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi called for a UN-backed force to stabilise the Israeli-Lebanon border.
Muslims “must show preparedness to contribute forces for peacekeeping operations under the United Nations banner,” Abdullah told the conference.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said hostilities must be halted “before the spiralling violence engulfs the entire region and kills the hope for a durable and just peace in the Middle East.”

War is only inevitable when one side will not stop pursuing it.
We can be sure that the one thing that will not stop war is hatred. Those who use their hatred of others as an excuse not to speak with them are those who cause war.
It takes a stronger man to turn the other cheek than it does to lash out in revenge.

It is already a clash of civilizations. You might as well face it; there's no turning back. Radical Islam believes history is on their side, and we've got to show them the error in their thinking, no matter what it takes.

seriously, if you "onward christian soldier" types are all about wiping all these PEOPLE off of the planet, can't you devise a way that is less messy and time consuming? what's with all the theatrical effort to make it look like they are the aggressors? quit being such pantywipes and get on w/ it already, i'd rather not have it on tv for the next 50 years.
by the way, who was that last guy that decided one race/ethnicity/religion was to blame for all the woes of the land? i'm thinkin you could learn from his efforts, maybe even improve upon them w/ all our modern technology?

What I'm hearing is that the administration is saying they don't want a ceasefire so that Israel has the time it needs "to do their job". If that's the case then GWB should grow some balls and just go carpet bomb 'em and get it over with. Maybe Bush needs to talk to Landis about how to up his testosterone (sp?) levels.
edit - this is not my position just a comment on the fu&k*d up situation
