Such a variety of terrains! And so spectacular the landscape views. Thanks for sharing.

Le Bruce - How big IS that giant bug??? It looks like it's the size of a week old puppy! Kind of cute, though, which surprises me I would think such a thing, since I sort of am afraid of insects.

Wickedly beautiful and remote. Whats the story on indigenous predators and other nasties ? Can you drink straight from the streams and lakes ?

Really beautiful pics, Jim! Thanks for posting them. Is that Klepper you're paddling?

Thanks for the glimpse into another world.

Ditto on what bmacd asked. Tell us something about the natural history, Jim. The area looks fascinating. What about the indigenous people?

Thanks Jim!

Incredible place and that fish looks a little bit bigger than what we were catching in August!

I assume that I'll catch you in Boston next month. Any chance you might want to stay in N.H. for a few days? We have extra rooms.

It is a Klepper and I also have an Alpaca pack raft. There are no snakes or bears, biggest predator is the Puma which is rarely seen. You can drink any water you come across, there is no Geardia. Virtually no Mosquitos, the only annoying bug is a horsefly (Tabanos) which are around for 4 to 6 weeks.
Thanks le bruce for the additions.

Awesome, Jim! You're really getting that photoshop thing down! :-)

I'm heading down there again with my boat. It's a Schlepper.

Unreal. I am penciling that in for places to emmigrate to. Chile has a reputation for being a really solid country. Too bad that the cost of living is also pretty modern.

I assume that healthcare is reasonable. I just had a simple knee scope done and the whole one hour procedure cost over 20 grand to my insurance company.

Is all of that stuff close to the lake? Some of it looks like further south.

It's all close to Lago General Carrera. Healthcare in Chile is the best in Latin America and is unbelievably cheap- procedures are a fraction of the cost in America.

Jim, I was reading about a place called Marble Caverns or such. You heard about it or been there?

Hey Donini, I think I've been to your spread or nearby on General Carrera once, though you weren't down there at the time. Cato was a friend of the family, we visited him and his wife once while passing through. I think maybe you knew him as well? RIP, he was a great person.

In '04 my aunt and uncle went down after I told them how much I loved it, stayed at a place Cato showed them. They came back talking about a "nice Italian gentleman they'd met who had done a lot of adventuring in the region, and maybe even some climbing." Ha!

Couple more of the region and then I'm going to throttle back and try to force myself to stop day-dreaming and work. Hard to resist mentally checking out and going back.
