People talk too much already. You people are proof of that.
Can't you you just shut the Hell up for a little while?
Silence in your own thoughts can be very rewarding, in its own way.
People drive poorly, though(ALL of them) because they treat the vehicle casually, not like the hurtling instrument of Death that it's capable of being.
F*#k them, then. Let them die. Elbow room is needed.

Cornice Chopper: Re your post.

It goes without saying that the economy will suffer if Obama succeeds in
creating such a game changing upheaval in how business operates here in America.

WOW! I didn't know this DOT cell phone/texting shist was another Obama plot to destroy America!

Thanks for tipping us off!

How did you know that "the black Satan" is behind this "government plot" to keep "God-fearing, texting-teenagers" from killing "clueless liberal-commie drivers????"

As a fellow Republican!!! I commend you!

hey there say, kunlan_shan...

wow, yes... as to the brain and how it works...

you are so right! but of course, a bit more bold, than i, :)

it is the incocent folks that we have to find a way to give more of a chance against "mind-controled by phone folks"

*you know, your brain actually kind of "puts you in another world" when you are caught up in speak with some that IS ELSEWHERE...

edit: and it does go into 'a calculating type mode' when using a keyboard, and not the same brain-mode as for watching roads and cars... :(

SO--it IS like people are in a 'spiritual sense' 'not there' when it come to being in the driver-seat, at all.... :(

Has anyone ever read one of those giant posts, all the way through?
Not many, I'd wager.

Seems like the studies like to focus on the number 4, brought to you by sesame street.

Cliff notes:

-Drivers are 4x more likely to crash, make a mistake, miss a turn, etc when speaking on a mobile phone than those not using mobile phones while driving.

-Speaking with a companion in a vehicle about the local demograph can
increase one's focus on driving and observation of one's whereabouts.

-Speaking with a companion in a vehicle MAY increase the chances of crashing.

-Hand free units may not offed any advantage over units that are hand held

-Mobile users are more likely to use a mobile phone to phone in after an accident.

They need to outlaw farding first.

Now this may seem sexist since only women and possibly a few gay men fard while driving.

But, it is exceptionally dangerous.

Even more dangerous than texting!

Farding must be outlawed and strict penalties imposed!

"Automobiles who can sell cars with these devices built in will win. "

Yeah, that caught my eye, too. Still, it seems a little far-fetched to think that the NTSB is in the pocket of in-car cellphone hardware mfr's. But what do I know about such things.

So, does anyone out there believe that using cell phones (texting, surfing, email or voice) while driving doesn't create some kind of a distraction to driving?

Probably not. Presenting a bunch of stats and links showing how 'yer gonna die' while driving & celling is probably kinda pointless.

The question is how, or if, it should be legislated.

Not near the distraction of farding while driving, but then I don't ever fard, let alone while driving!

Farding drivers in the fast lane do worry me though.

Is the word Farting banned on ST? or are you making a point: I do not have the wit to understand?

Edit! Farting is not banned? What is your point?

Corniss is of course right!

This is a State matter, because, well, just on principle, not for any good reason.

Corniss also believes there should be no child safety seat restraints Federal law.

And let the States decide if the food is safe to eat in each state!

And how about Education, let the States decide if the kids should even go to school!

The entire south will be playing Deliverance

"Cell phone use in automobiles is regulated by the states. This is not a federal matter.Period. "

Donald, the NTSB has no authority to make such a federal law. Their statement today was a recommendation to the States- it's up to them as to whether to draft such laws.

"It's only pointless if you assume that no one believes that the distractions of talking on a cell phone are insignificant."

Huh? That's a double negative, isn't it? Those always make me scratch my head.

Anyway...I reiterate...I betcha almost everyone here believes that the distractions of talking on a cell phone are significant.
