I got sucker punched by some 19 year old bitch at The Buffet.... Who promptly ran out the back door before I could slam her face into the bar. I would, a week later, get her 86'd from the bar completely, due to her.being under age and a c#&%.
Ohhhhh, my 20's.

Ever get my ass kicked???
Hell yeah man!!!
How else do you learn how to fight???
Four major butt whoopings between ages 9 and 19 taught me how to read my fellow man and know when to run, when to stand, and when to sucker punch the ahole in the nads.
Musta worked cause other than a few old scars and a gunshot hole - I haven't been a fighting fool in going on 30 years.

^^^^^Props for High School Greco-Roman Wrestlers - no other so called martial art taught me more how to get my butt out of trouble than did my 3 years of HS wrestling.
Yeah - it wasn't Nam - no bouncing bettys blowing yer nads off, but you did learn how to headbutt a crotch without being caught by the ref...now tell me true that you haven't had to use that skill at least once more in your life?

Ricky: my mini-triumph was in 10th grade in the consolation round of a tournament. I got to wrestle a kid who bullied me in 7th grade (I'd changed schools). It was my 3rd match of the day. He was stronger but I was in better shape...pinned him with a head and arm throw near the end of the 3rd period...sweet!

Have had my ass kicked many times, some notable beatings: speed reef , lakey peak, centerville, pasquales, Hanalei, sunset, p.o.wall, dihedral wall ( more like bakings than beatings) and the time when I was sixteen and was hanging with some chicks at El Cap point. (lompoc rednecks)

Ho man - that there is honest to goodness thrill of victory. For me, it was also one too many bullies in grade school that apparently directed me towards the mat arts.
I mean really, I weighed a whopping 102 pounds soaking wet at 5 foot 8 - who exactly over the age of nine am I going to physically intimidate?
But then it was pointed out to me that Bantam Roosters are some the toughest SOBs on the planet - and they are runts too!
In the end, what I liked most was the fact that only YOU could win or only YOU could lose - choice was up to YOU alone.

The nice thing about learning a martial art is you don't have to get in fights anymore. After putting in hours and hours of training you just don't care enough to get beat up anymore, and most people trying to start a fight with you are praying they don't have to. Look people in the eye confidently and check the monkey ego bullshit at the door and only a real psycho will throw a sucker punch at you.
But if they do, know what to do. Spending hours in a gym drilling is good because you have a "go to" move, get pushed or kicked or rabbit punched and just go into spar mode. Tie up and sweep. Most people that are 'street fighters' don't train, they just pray they pick on people who don't train either and are scared enough to throw punches instead of walk away.
edit - got in 20+ fights in middle school/high school until I got KTFO'd by a homeless kid from Marching Band. Yup. Anyone has a shot. Better not to mess with people, especially in So Cal where half of us are packin' heat : /

East Side - you got thumped by Lompocians?
No sh#t??
This must have been a while back because the last time I was over there for a work project all I saw were shaved-head 300 pound morons stuffed full of Mickey D's.
Yeah - they're mean and stupid - but they could be outrun with little effort.

At least twice. South Laguna (1,000 Steps) and Oahu (Makapuu). Epic beat downs and all you can do is take it....

Can I give you a secret there GD?
Big guys - 6 footers, double deuce pounders, et cetera - scary dudes when looking down their barrel I'll agree.
But as long as they are over 30 years of age, then it's a sure bet that their knees are probably shot from holding up that tower of meat.
Kick em with your shoe, smack em with a stick, whack em with a rock - anything on or around that knee joint and they start looking like the leaning tower of Pisa.

hey there all, say....
hard thing about fights--losers can die, and in a split second...
hard thing about being a mom, to boys...
you got to know how to train them to grow, and yet, still
allow them to be able to handle trouble, if it hits, and or, judge not too handle, but step away...
as noted already:
there are fights where folks jump someone...
fights, out of fast anger, or pride
fights from obnoxious drinking spouting...
fights were gangs lay in wait...
and--fights that one starts, intentionaly, or was just begging for, stupidly...
in all cases, folks never have an anchored thought at that slit second that THEY may very well be the one, that goes to jail for assault, even if they were perhaps thinking they were dealing out 'protection'...
or--they may be the one, arrested for wrongful-death, etc (is that what it is called???) if the man they hit, falls on his head and dies...
whewwww, hard stuff, fighting is, for sure...
:(
harder still, to walk away from one...
and at times, harder still, to walk OUT of the midst of one, alive, once it's going down--if it's a gang--specially if someone pulls a gun...
yep:
us moms sure pray for our boys, as they grow into manhood, for sure...
and then for all the next boys, born to our boys, as well...
