Hookipa is double over head and not a breath of wind so the surfing is Great to day! I'm heading out as soon as I get my chores done.

This a quote from a recent interview that I did with Dale Cook.
WM: Dale, what do you think about The ?American Windsurfing Tour
DC: I think it’s awesome Olaf! It’s great to see Sam putting so much energy into promoting the sport of windsurfing. I remember one night about two years ago when me and some friends (including Sam) were playing poker. She informed us that evening that she was going to have a windsurfing contest. I thought she was crazy—but as you know, she pulled it off! It was a great contest and got everyone stoked on the sport again.

Report from Waddell
by AmericanWindsurfing Tour on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 11:36am
"It's been windy the last two weeks, with good swells mostly in the head high to logo+ range. Winter finally left with a bang late March, after 14 consecutive days with rain... ugh. Since March 28 we've had wind almost everyday, which is normal for this time of year. How windy? Well, yesterday I was at Waddell out on a 4.5 Goya Eclipse and 85L Quatro quad in a 14ft @ 17sec NW swell. I was pretty lit most of the time. Lighter guys (I am 210lbs dry) were on 4.0s and smaller. The wind was perfect side shore, and the waves held up real nice, peeling, and good for 3-5 turns. Awesome. Unfortunately the rain storms from March ate all sand away from waddell's beach, but it's already starting to slowly fill back in. Hopefully by the time the contest is, we've got some decent sand levels. If not, it's slip and slide over the rocks/reef and the waves will break top to bottom HARD on a low tide, compared to when there's sand. Otherwise, it's been mostly the regular ~5.0 days for me. Today is another mid 20mph day, and the forecast calls for at least 3 more days out of five in the 15-25mph wind range. Yep, the season is here and it's looking good. Hopefully this trend will continue well into May! Btw, attached a picture of me at Davenport last week, showing what conditions to expect during the contest."
Aloha

Planet Blow - The Dark Lines
Whit Poor Clinic at Waddell May 2-4
Do you want to improve your wave riding skills or learn a new big air trick? Join Whit Poor (pictured above by Kevin Pritchard) for a pre-event clinic at Waddell from May 2nd to 4th starting at 10am in the parking lot. Just show up and get some great instruction. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone in the youth or amateur divisions to build on their wavesailing technique.
Wavetrain to play opening night
We're kicking off the Santa Cruz Classic on Wed. May 4th with a band featuring two guys that will also be competing in the event? Local pro and drummer Kai Katchadourian joins up with Mark Johnstone (from the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band) for a not-to-miss show at the Davenport Roadhouse. The band goes on from 8-10pm right after check-in (5-7pm) and dinner (7-8pm).
I was just in the Fast Forward shop the other day and talked with Skyler Haywood son of windsurf legend Fred Haywood and he told me he was traveling to the Santa Cruise event as well.
Good luck to Skyler and all the competitors.

What about the Wetter brothers, those guys were way hot before the Pritchards. I remember setting at Hookipa and watching one of the Wetter brothers land what I believe was the first double loop ever done. Pretty rad, I think I might have been the only person to see it.
I also remember seeing Craig Masonville always trying to pull off a 360 on the face of a wave, that guy never used harness lines, kind of crazy. One day Im watching and he pulled it off, perfect 360. I never saw him sail again. I think he quit the sport and sold Hi-tech and moved on to become a preacher. As the world turns.
Hey Oman, is Scott dickinson still making Maui Fins?

Thanks for the input guys and yes I do post when I feel something is valid concerning the American Windsurfing Tour and intend to keep my supertopo friends abreast and informed about this dynamic return to competitive wavesailing in the USA.
Promoting this group of events is my way of giving back to the sport that I am totally immersed in. Windsurfing is my life, meaning that, I make my living from windsurfing and a large amount of my friends are windsurfers.
The sport is only shadowed by one other lifestyle and that is of coarse climbing.BTW:I am really stoked about an upcoming rock climbing trip to Colorado this summer that I am planning. I have deep roots in the Platte,Eldorado,Moab, and the Park.
I just love to share my stoke for the Ocean with my mountain ohana and intend to keep this thread going through the tour and if I don't get too much conflict and if I can get some quality feed back from time to time perhaps we can keep it going into the next season. Surfing and wave sailing is easily as valid as some of the other interests expressed in this forum. "just sayin"
BTW: Nor Cal. guys the Santa Cruz leg of the event is this weekend at Waddell Creek (May 5-8) I wont be able to make this one but intend to be at the Pistol River Event as a reporter and maybe even as a competitor again this year. It's in late June at one of the most striking settings on earth.
I hope that Craig Masonville is making a great impact on the lives of others like he did in the world of windsurfing.
Maui Finns ? I will look into it I ride "Maui Finn Company"
I don't know the Wetter brothers but the level of the sailors here on the north shore is through the roof these days. we have some very dedicated athletes around here.
