I bet I am not the only one who thinks that you would be a fierce security guard, Lynne. You call em like you see em. Fattrad could school you on the finer points, eh? Steam on van windows, tap tap, sir, you are not allowed here on the side street, Ok, you can stay at my place.Need an OE? Want some pizza? Do you know Werner?....Cause that's the way you are.

Best of luck on following the dream. Just make sure it is a big enough place for the rest of us (selfish, I know),

Lynne-

I've been finding that there are just some points in our lives where and when we need "a change of scenery." I've been considering something similar, just for the psychological change of pace after some difficult personal times.
I'm considering SW Colorado near Durango or Cortez, even though I dearly love the ranch here in Wyoming.
So... all the best to you in your decision making.

Yo Guys, as usual, are the Best with encouragement and advice !

Fattrad, looked up Cameron Park.....48.8% males to 51.2% females.....average median age is 37.5 uh, perhaps not :DDD Kidding, those were the first stats that came up. I never thought to check stuff like that. Don't think I will either. One can overplan. I like the follow the heart theory. Also, I have family that climbs in Carson Valley.

Cragman, Nice! and thanks for the invite !

Sully, good thoughts. I was thinking about worship yesterday. How great it would be to meet out in a meadow or near a stream with some guitars etc. and go at it.

Joey, my dreams always include the Taco :D

Rodger/brokedownclimber, heartfelt......I'll remember you in my prayers. Have you ever checked this website. I stumbled on it looking for jobs. It's now on my favorites. Help Wanted Now-Cool Works.com I love it, now I have to challenge myself. Am I bold enough to try one of them. Have even thought of going to cooking school so I could qualify for a small lodge somewhere. Do you "wrangle" ? I don't, but it seems like they are always looking for wrangler's. Think one season of something/somewhere really different would be good for the mind and soul. lynnie

Lynne-

First, thanks for your very kind words and thoughts. Nope; I don't wrangle
horses anymore, I don't have horses either. Most cattle work these days is done from 4 wheelers.

I have thought about taking up an offer I had several years ago of being an astronomy docent at Chaco Canyon in their night skies program. I am, and have been, a serious amateur astronomer as well as a climber.

Others have said it, but at some point you simply have to follow your heart and do something for yourself.

I think we all tend to think the grass is a little more green somewhere else other than where we live. No question that San Diego has its pros and cons but so does just about everywhere you go. Alot as to where we live depends on how we want to live our life. Sullys advice is good in that not only is it important to have family and friends close by but have the ability to keep ones mind active.

Lynne, the way I see it is that you had 28 good years in your house but a house is just a place to live and its the memories and good times that stays with you. I know this all too well in that when I sold my house by Lake Hodges despite living there for 10 years 5 good ones with my late wife after the last 5 it was time to go. I am very fortunate to have found someone special in my life again and to be able to share life with her and her boys but even if that would not have occurred I would still have moved. There were and still are many things I loved about the little house by the lake and the surrounding area but had discovered that due to its location it also had set some limits on my interests and activities. It just was not the same when I lived there with my wife. Life goes on and I personally think a little change is good for us all now and then.

Like Flagstaff, the Eastside@ has it all, but jobs...

The east side makes Flagstaff look like the land of opportunity and economic equality.

Yeah, the economy in "mountain" towns is always way behind the curve for making a living. If you have a life situation where money is not the primary focus, then by all means ... go for it.

The Flagstaff thing is classic in that respect. I had to move from Flagstaff to Washington State because I had a family and it wasn't working for me there, even though I had a great job with lousy pay at the City of Flag.

Lynne, only you know your own circumstances with which you know what you need to do. Go into it with both eyes open. It was hard for me to move 1200 miles from all my friends and family to a place where I had neither! But 13 years later I am still here. Good luck on whichever direction your compass takes you.

(edit: and financially the move was great, as it has set me up for the second childhood I desire ... soon to be experienced! -- If I had stayed in Flag ... I would be destitute today)

Unlike a lot of other people I moved to what could be described as a more congested area of San Diego in Pt Loma. Yep we have traffic and lots more people than where I lived before but I also can walk to places or use public transportation and ride my bike. There is the beach, the bay and lots to do down here as opposed to where I was before. For me climbing too is a hobby and although it does take some time to get to places like Yosemite etc. in some ways it makes trips up there a little more special.

I can fully understand Lynnes frustration as where she is located is not all that far from where I once lived. In order to get anywhere you have to commute and there is no worse commute than the I - 15 here in SD. I can see maybe down the road moving to a place where life is a little more quiet much like I lived before but for now i actually like the change from all that and still get to enjoy places like Yosemite, J Tree etc. I think in Lynnes case most of the people she interacts with are not in her immediate area and so a move may be a positive thing for her.
