maybe not the best, but worth an honorable mention...

I'm lucky enough to have been there. Eschewing the Suzuki Samurai rentals to get around is good too, it's a very walkable experience.

When it comes to getting the most from the least, the Anasazi get my vote.

Hey Survival,

Petra was created by the Nabateans. They were also amazing hydrologists. If you wander around Petra you find all manner of complicated systems to catch and channel water. Pretty wild. Definitely a place to go before you die.

Fat dad, I would love to make it there.

I lived in Saudi for four years and went to a lot of places, but never made Petra.

Actually the water works at a lot of our favorite ancient haunts were pretty amazing, including Machu Picchu.

Here's one from Petra:

Not sure which masons put this up, but I've been pondering such a structure out of bricks since seeing it in the Caylor appreciation thread.

Looks like it is a Muezzin tower, courtesy of Islam.

Rokjox,

I think that invalidates the entry, if it was carved in-situ.

NOT! I didn't ask who carved the best blocks, but who were the best Stonemasters. Carving out of a cliff wouldn't disqualify them in the least, IMO.
Although that is a beautiful post you put up!

Lots of cool stuff here. Made in the USA, the Washington National Cathedral of the Episcopal Church deserves a mention. It is the last hand built Gothic Cathedral built.

The remarkable story of this building's contruction is here:

Survival, in 1978 I played a Medieval straight trumpet in performances of The Play of Daniel in there. I gotta say that cutting loose on that long horn in those acoustics was thrilling. The downside was the silly costume complete with gold tights...

Well, no doubt the Big Guy Upstairs for sure is "The StoneMaster." After all he created all the Stone in the Universe . . .

But, some others I would say are those whom were once on this terrestrial planet (Mars). Something tells me that this painting is based on something someone knows and is not saying just yet. Just a very serious feeling I have based on some evidence that can't be dismissed.
