Dark Was the Night by Blind Willie Johnson is one of Ry Cooder's favorites. He has often said he warms up half an hour just to loosen up enough to play the song. Blind Willie Johnson's composition, Dark Was The Night--Cold Was The Ground, was included on a golden record that was sent in the Voyager space probe. The hymn from which Blind Willie Johnson's derived this song comes from the story about Christ...his suffering, pain & crucifixion.

This was no dream, just my imagination and a bit from a Largo tale:
about crazy south american sh-t like a seaside villa destroyed by a giant shark
or my imagining two neighboring volcanoes,
both in eruption and seeming to be having a contest to see who can destroy the most villages;
and the rise and fall of Amazon flood waters,
normal but crazy to outlanders;
and the annual migration of the chick-a-bees
and the fiesta of the chick-a-boom boxes,
both occurring annually in a region in the remote northern corner of Bolivia,
and which provide a backdrop for the eruptions of the two local volcanoes,
both of which endanger several villages and roads in the area.
Go tell it to the mountains.
Let the seas hear of it.
Spread the tale among the trees of the forests
and among the beasts you encounter there.

Deaf people
Chickens regenerate damaged hearing cilia
Researchers are pursuing several approaches to get this to happen in humans who appear to be just about the only ones who cannot regenerate naturally

There is a broadcast channel in Fresno which puts out tapes of old Greek TV shows that I used to watch with John, especially on Saturday evening.
There was an affiliation with the Noor Network, as you can see on the logo on the wall.
