Thanks for the beta, Pete! I prefer the "slab" climbing of the New, and there is a lot of other attractions - namely, the classic WV "hold my beer and watch this!" maneuver on the windy roads from Pocahontas County to Nicholas County.

O'Really, Russ? I thought you would defer to Bisexual Bill on that. Or do we mean "Try-sexual Bill" ?!
Pocahontas County West Virginia! Woo-hoo! My old stompin' grounds! I was one of the original explorers and surveyors of the Canadian Hole section of the Friar's Hole Cave System. Right on the Pocahontas/Greenbrier County line, on the west flank of Droop Mountain. Kinda below Jacox Knob.

Ok PTPP I guess I crapped on DMTs thread.. and that sucks cause it was a great share.
However I do beg to differ with you on being able to estimate slope angle once you have used a clinometer quite a bit.
My buddies and I used to be pretty good at it. We got so we were usually within 2 or 3 deg of the measured angle. I will say that getting a good slope measurement of a snow coulior even with the types of clinometers generally carried in the backcountry can be tricky and is probably off a degree or so.
Certainly not up to survey accuracy.

Pocahontas Peeps!
I was working for Patch Adams back in the late 90's helping him build his free hospital - all volunteer work. Hillsboro, it was - and the west coast white supremacist guy had just relocated (after being kicked out of Idaho, for Christ's sake) in the same little town. Man, when the clowns and the Nazi's met up in the little tavern, it was fukking crazy weird.
I gotta get another drink...

^^ Heh heh. He's spinning. How long til he pukes? Any bets?
Bueller? Bueller?
Holy frig! I have gone through Hillsboro a million times back in the day. Had no idea at all that this is where Patch Adams set up shop!
Only knew Hillsboro as the Pearl S. Buck birthplace. And of course the Droop Mountain Battlefield.
Now, if we could just connect upstream Canadian Hole and Clyde Cochrane to Locust Creek Cave, man, we'd have a system!
There are naked girls on TV right now kissing each other. I rather like it. Who'd'a thunk?
Um, I made a margarita, eh?

Man, somebody has to screen capture this night. Thanks for the diversion - my step-father of 20 years passed away last night and I got the news today.
Living is the best way to postpone death!
Thanks, everyone.
