C Wilmot

You get it wrong, you generalize. It's not a view of small town folk generally.

It's a view of many Bush jr supporters during the 2004 campaign. We saw the same behaviour during Trump's campaign. They have their reasons to be fearful...

Ok one more response

I have never heard anyone say they need to buy a gun for protection after a mass shooting. Why? Because mass shootings tend not to happen at your house. And getting a concealed carry permit to have a weapon in the public places these shootings occur is more effort than it's worth for most. Not tomention most of the places these shootings take place: schools, workplaces, nightclubs etc are deemed "gun free zones"
Making it illegal to carry regardless.
I have however heard people talk of getting a gun after these shootings because of a fear of coming regulations and cost increases.
My 2 cents

I sure don't know about the gun issue, but I'll tell you - I have been in Abilene Texas these last few days, and there's quite a bit of a juxtaposition going on.

First off, I am in the Library, located within the Mall of Abilene. This, I think, is a fantastic idea. So many malls across the country have no traffic, and huge empty spaces. Library is just one community use I think is a smart way to use the space, but anyway - so have been wandering around this mall as well.

This mall is the busiest mall I have seen in a good many years. Yesterday the place had a New Years sale going on and it was INSANE, the amount of people milling about, the long lines at EVERY checkout, and the amount of merchandise the people were buying. Maybe there's nothing to do round here but shop, but I am seeing girls 7-8 years old with full-scale designer handbags, and one little girl with blinged out braces in pastel colored rhinestones.

It seems this town has some wealth. There is a Dillard's store and it is chock FULL of rather nice party dresses. More than the average town this side could ever use, IMO. Which tells e that there MUST be somewhere these people are going on a regular basis that they need THIS many part dresses. Not just for grown ladies, but from tiny toddlers on up.

There is also a massive amount of "Christianity on Display." People got the fish things on their cars, and religious stickers. The mall is full of religion-oriented product, like leather stamped wall art of the crucifix graphically dolled up, or quotations of the bible, and purses with the bible verses as well.

The purse store makes a big promotional thing about having handbags that one can use in a Concealed Carry and Open Carry way.

Yet everywhere I go, many of the buildings have signs that say "Ya can't bring yer gun n here, open or concealed.

It just seems REALLY freaky to me to be chatting with some lady in the grocery store, and she is all "Goodness, bless you" and such and I have to wonder - is she packing a pistol?

A stunning new book about the Iraq War has just come out from a perspective we have not yet heard from.

It is written by John Nixon, the CIA analyst who interrogated Saddam Hussein after his capture 13 years ago. Nixon reveals that much of what the CIA believed they knew about Saddam Hussein at the time of the invasion was wrong. During his interrogation, Hussein revealed that by 2003 he had largely turned over power to his aides so he could concentrate on writing a novel.

There was no program of weapons of mass destruction. Saddam Hussein was also deeply critical of al-Qaeda and other Islamist groups inspired by Wahhabism. During the interrogation, Hussein also had a warning for the United States about Iraq.

He said, "You are going to fail. You are going to find that it is not so easy to govern Iraq. You are going to fail in Iraq because you do not know the language, the history, and you do not understand the Arab mind."

"Brietbart": yep, yer brain is shot. Breitbart is right wing propaganda, its former head, who used that website to create a safe space for the alt right (which is largely a collection of white supremacists) is Steve Bannon, who ran Trump's campaign and is now in trump's white house.

They peddle to people who are easily manipulated, like you. The fact you consider it a source shows how far you have your mouth around Trump's balls.

In some strange way, this news report seems right for this thread.

**Dog Mauls Family After They Try to Dress It in a Christmas Sweater
Char Adams Sun, Jan 1 11:49 AM PST**

A pit bull mix named Scarface attacked its owner on Friday after she tried to put a Christmas sweater on it, police confirm to PEOPLE.

Police said the dog attacked 52-year-old Brenda Guerrero, biting her arm, in the back yard of her Tampa, Florida, home when she tried to put a Christmas sweater on it, WABC reports.

Guerrero’s husband, Ismael, and their 22-year-old son tried to help the woman but were both attacked by the dog.

“Officers responding said the dog was pretty aggressive,” Eddy Durkin with the Tampa Police Department told WABC. “When they tazed the dog, the dog was still pulling away and was able to release the prongs from the tazer.

The couple’s son reportedly stabbed the dog in an effort to stop the attack, WFLA reports.

All three escaped the house, leaving the dog in the backyard, according to WTSP. They were all reportedly treated for their injuries at a local hospital, with authorities calling Guerrero’s serious but not life-threatening.

Animal Control officials responded to the scene and shot the pit bull with a tranquilizer gun, according to WTSP. The dog managed to get into the home, where there were two children present.

Authorities eventually managed to subdue the dog using a bean bag gun and stun gun and captured it with a catch pole, WTSP reports.

It is unclear whether the dog will be euthanized.
