To carry on in John's theme, he, and many other Republicans, are in traditional terms liberals. That is, they nominally favour free markets and minimum regulation. (At least for corporations.)

But then, no one believes me when I observe that the US, to a political scientist, is a liberal democracy.

There used to be a pizza place in Vancouver, called Pizza 222. Their number was 222-2222. It seems fitting that FatTrad, pizza delivery specialist to Republican wannabes, got post 22222.

Given my family name, I always spell things "ou" rather than "o" when I can. Plus it's standard English spelling. :-)

who's more dangerous: a conservative radio personality or an islamic state run by an apocalyptic egomaniac with nuclear ambitions?

Anders, I not only believe you, I agree with you. The trouble is that modern Liberals and Democrats are often neither.

On no account will a Commie ever drink water, and not without good reason.

Unless he gets a grip and finds some grown-ups from whom he is willing to take advice, this is not going to improve.

You crack me up man. You scream that you don't want Obama to implement his agenda. You support politicians who have taken an "obstruction at all costs" stance. Now you're arguing that he needs to get some better help so that he can finally implement his agenda? The socialist-fascist agenda that you are crying about being "pushed down your throat?" Do you even have a cogent line of thinking on all of this or do you simply quote anything from anyone that looks like criticism of Obama. Why am I asking that, it's exactly what you do.

BP should pay, but this grandstanding doesn't solve oilgate.

Here's a list of things that Obama can do to "take control" and "solve oilgate"

1. Nationalize BP's American holdings and appoint himself CEO
2. ......

At least the women in the Bush clan have a brain and a sense of human decency.

She may have been born into a Republican family, but Barbara Bush, the 28-year-old daughter of former President George W. Bush, sounded more like a Democrat this weekend during an interview with Fox News. When "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace asked her whether she supports President Obama's health care reform plan, she responded: "I guess I'm glad the bill was passed."

"Why do, basically, people with money have good health care and why do people who live on lower salaries not have good health care?" she said. "Health should be a right for everyone." She is president of the Global Health Corps, an organization that champions global health equity.

No Republican in Congress voted for Obama's health care legislation.

Barbara Bush's comments come just weeks after her mother, former First Lady Laura Bush, professed views that departed sharply from the Republican majority opinion. During a Fox News interview, Laura Bush was asked to comment on Elena Kagan's nomination to the Supreme Court.

"I think it's great," she responded. "I'm really glad that there will be three [women] if she's confirmed. I like to have women on the Supreme Court." And in an interview with CNN's Larry King last month, she came out in favor of abortion rights and gay marriage.

That makes at least two Bushes who probably won't be invited to headline Republican campaign rallies anytime soon.

Go to Fox news for lies...go to NBC for good journalism.

Yes, kudos to them.

The thing is, the health care plan that emerged had its roots in conservative think tanks. Deep down, a lot of Republicans probably supported it but got caught up in the drive to bash anything the Dems do.
