C'mon Robs. Don't get the sarcasm. I used to boulder with you at Baldy sans pad.

Doesn't Tarbuster have some pics of D. Yerian with huge, distended belly? Someone does; I've seen them somewhere!

Sarcasm? Who, moi? Climbing pads... Don't know when they were first invented (or used) but certainly they didn't exist in the day of Roberts, Lewis, Muir and Accomazzo that Summer in Wales. At least in our world-view... No pads at Baldy back then for precisely the same reason.
Wow, I don't think I even owned a pad until my 25th or 30th year of climbing! I finally broke down and bought one so that Bolton and my REALLY OLD friends wouldn't bust any brittle bones.
Hell, we took the pad up to Baldy just last Thursday! We ain't tired (or proud)... (Suit up, Henny! The weather's fine.)

My first experience with pads was when my girlfriend said she didn’t need them anymore.
Seriously doh, it was probably in the early nineties down in Hueco, my first pad was a ridge rest folded over with egg shell cushion from the local Kmart & held together with duct tape.
Talk about psychological protection... pathetic.
Oh yeah, most ripped climber, boobi, err bobbi.
I don't know why she’s so angry, she justed clipped in.

In any event, Yerian talked at the top of his lungs all the way up West Alpine Road to the summit riding the same old steel Colnago he's had for 20 years, while I struggled to keep up with him on my Guru Ti.

Go Dave, go.
Bruce, tell David hello. I have his phone number now, thanks to A Crowley, and will give him a shout over the coming days.
Patrick
I use to have a Colnago, but my brother now has my Pogliaghi.
A Masi and Bianchi (Bianci?) too.

Anyone know if iron-man like posed ripped backshots of Wolfgang G. or Tobin S. exist? I would say they were pretty ripped.
Man, were they ahead of their time. It would be interesting to see shots of these two late great "StoneMasters." Even if Wolfgang wasn't actually a StoneMaster member, he is an honorary member by default in my book.
These two were damn good, strong, and true well rounded Alpinists, and way ahead of the times. They were Visionaries.
Edit: Yep, good find below. I have that poster in my garage for inspiration :-))

Looks like JG's on "Au Natural"...
Prolly startin' a poo fling-but I've always considered Gulli to be in a class of his "own"--........from "Crazy Bouldering" to "long, hard and free" ...more "buff" than ript. JMO.
Creds to whoever took em'.

Upthread someone requested an 80's post trade show Climbing or R&I lay out featuring, Bridwell, Freer, Sibley, Cannon, maybe Wilford and a handfull of others, posing atop and ajacent to wrecked cars out in Vegas, all shirtless, Freer included (back shot), in their lycra.
BVB or some such archivist shud dig that thing up pronto.
I tossed that issue a cuple years back.

Now that you mention it, 55 quarter, 1:55 half, 4:13 mile, 9:20 2 mile, and 2;50 marathon.......bet I couldn't even RUN one mile now........(But I can change diapers on 3 babies pretty damn fast....). Mike Ayon was a fast runner back in the day.....faster than I was, that's for sure......(Fitness is over-rated.....)
