"...but the public needs to take more personal responsibility for their retirement and investments."

I agree, but for citizens to build their retirements completely upon the whims of corporations and investment markets, which have rollercoasted wildly for the last 50 years as Repugs have slowly and progressively peeled away financial regulations, is just plain stooopid.

Unless you are an investment broker & in the upper 2% income. Then everything's just peachy!

Fat..the best thing to happen to the democrats is the tea party whack jobs...split the party even more.

I agree with personal responsibility...I also think that the government should play a bigger part in the holding the financial sector accountable.

Imagine what our streams, rivers and air would be like without government intervention and corporations left on their own.

Bob,

Much of the seminal environmental legislation was passed during Nixon's first term in office.

Your so right John...who controlled the house and Senate and who wrote the bills.

"I would love to hang out with you all and chat more with you guys tonight but as I said the negativity and bile here is getting on my nerves. I don't want to participate any more this evening the way the "nasties" are spewing bile. This forum is getting very ugly, of late, and it is beginning to exceed my tolerance of negativity and vileness. The problem with negativity and hate is that it generates so much negative energy that it can overpower anything else."

"This recession is partly caused by spineless regulators."

Anybody wanna guess which party was largely responsible for putting them there?

Actually, and to his credit, the deregulation movement's first moves were during the Carter administration. Alfred Kahn was probably the biggest name in the economics of regulated industries, and he led the charge to deregulate, among other markets, airlines and trucks. The reason a flight from LA to NY costs so much less than it did 35 years ago is testimony to its effectiveness. It's a pity Carter's other economic advisors -- and his FTC appointments -- weren't as astute as Kahn.

Thats fine Dr F because Saudi's got a darn good investment in a media outlet
that is pro business. Obama's policies are anti business and will decrease
the use of energy -less oil- and mean less $$$ in the Bank of Saud.
