Dirge Prudence,
Can you come out and play dead?
I had a surprise when I went to have a samwidge at the Cinema. CO Williams and his GF Patti were there having lunch with the dogs and I joined them.
He told me of the things he's been up to, I told him of the things I'd been up to, and he told me of his motorcycle rides in the vicinity of the Russian River, specifically up along King Ridge, the one shown in hooblie's photo a few pages ago.
There is a winery up there, sure enough. It's the Wild Hog.

He was going on about a piece of filet mignon he's prepared for grilling tomorrow. Lots of nitpickiness involved but he knows his meat and how to cook it. The dogs were treated to the scraps, of course!
Then I went to the MexMart via taxi and shopped around. And the taxi home.
It's the knee, or I'd have walked...five blocks away, normally no biggie, but it's also 100° outside now at 5:30, so the fare was worth it.
I had a California pastrami, BTW. To make any dish a California dish, just add avocado.

If you had the right connections with the coneheads you could celebrate your birthday with Smokey.

BTW Methadone is a better pain killer than the usual ones prescribed for pain. My neighbor who is dying of pancreatic cancer has a prescription.

I'm wonderin' what I should do.
Sun-Stroke article this mornin'.
I just spoke to Sheriff Verne outside the Cinema yesterday as he sat down to a hearty breakfast of pork products.

Merced County Sheriff’s deputies rescued four women who were stranded on rafts in the Merced River near Snelling.
The rafters began floating down the river at Henderson Park in Snelling on three rafts tied together. About a mile down the river, their rafts became tangled in a tree, according to authorities.
Sheriff’s deputies were called about 2:30 p.m. Monday to assist the floaters. Deputies deployed rescue boats to help untangle the rafters and get them to shore safely.
One of the rafters, Megan Riise, said they started floating at around 12:45. Riise, 26, said she decided to float down the river because she had the day off and wanted to keep cool.
When they got stuck, Riise said, they were trying to find a stopping point, “that’s why we were so close to the edge.”
All four women were pulled safely from the water at about 4 p.m.
“I had to stay very calm even though I was terrified,” Michele Marovich, 47, told the Sun-Star.
Marovich, who lives in Dos Palos, said she was sharing a two-person raft with her 11-year-old daughter, Sophia Thomas. Their raft was stuck to the tree, she said, and before the sheriff’s office showed up, her daughter had fallen out of the tube, but was able to get back on.
Sophia was the only person wearing a life vest, Marovich said, “she was a trooper.”
Within minutes Marovich knew they had to find help to make it out of the river and she used her daughter’s cellphone to call the police.
“We had some pretty awesome men and women out here,” Marovich said. “I didn’t think we were going to make it. I just kept praying to God.”
California rivers have been especially dangerous this year as a record snowpack melts from the Sierra Nevada.
Last month, 36-year-old Jose Castaneda drowned in the Merced River near Hagaman Park close to Stevinson after jumping in the water after his 3-year-old daughter, who was swept away by the current. The girl survived.
On Monday, the body of a Mariposa man was recovered from the Merced River upriver from the Bagby Recreation Area, approximately 8 miles down river from where he was last seen. The 19-year-old man disappeared last week after swimming near Cable Beach.

Now Hedenström and his team have identified how long these birds can stay in the air, the next question is:
how do they do it?
How do they go potty?
A ten-month flight would make me dotty?
And is the swift's song an uplifting, upbeat one?
Quite a migration.

June 28th's show was special.

Well, Mack the Finger said to Louie the King
"I got forty red-white-and-blue shoestrings
And a thousand telephones that don't ring
Do you know where I can get rid of these things?"
And Louie the King said, "Let me think for a minute, son"
Then he said, "Yes, I think it can be easily done
Just take everything down to Highway 61"

Thank you, amigo. I mean, gracias, my friend.
I cannot, as do you, roam where the anecdotal air is thick with tales of your yore. I go whither I go and seek to immortalize those things taken for granted. Why I do this I do not ask for it would spoil the suspense.
There will be a fireworks display at what used to be Castle AFB, home of the Bill Dolt Great Clandestine Machine Shop and Giant Gas Guzzling B-52s and Huge Honking KC-135s out in Atwater.
The Merchants of Atwater presented the 4th of July Parade today. These just in.These photos courtesy of atwater4thofjuly.org
