Not feeling capital at all this morning is actor Powers Boothe.
Not feeling much of anything, likely.

Merced is a pistachio nut growing lightweight. Kern County leads the state, producing over 30% of the total US production.
It is estimated that to grow one pistachio requires .75 gallons of water.

You don't surf here, don't leave your trash here, puto!
It shouldn't have been that hard to pass. The reading list was not lengthy.

Among Clouds
I am in a quiet place
surrounded by air
separated from terra firma
by hundreds of feet of vertical
on a block of solid karst
millions of years in the making.
It is so quiet up here.
There is the wind
the humble conqueror
the leveler of land piled high like this
into realms in which
it is not welcome.
The wind winds around tree branches
and floats off into space
smelling like eucalyptus flowers.
Small birds flit
silently and quickly
while here I lay
grooving on that gravity stuff
while lying flat on my back
gazing at the clumping clouds
as each flows by
on the sweet-smelling breeze.
The clouds are quieter than mice
as they charge through tree branches
and surround the surrounding towers
with their ghosting embrace
making things appear
and then disappear
and then reappear.
Here is a distant view
now it is cut off
now here is a bit of blue
now it is filled with gray
and the shriek of an eagle
pierces the sky.
How pleasing
that I can recall this scene
from a youth lived so long ago.

2003 – Archival Inkjet Print – Mark Klett and Byron Wolfe
So much of what we know, and what
we think we know, about the land
has first passed through someone’s lens.
The interesting thing is to make
use of this history, not merely be absorbed into it.
For me, landscapes begin as the artifacts
of personal moments. They get interesting
when they become cultural comments.
