Though there are appropriate people out there, that is one serious route to do with a stranger.

Hey, no prob if you're jumping into that rabbit hole with both eyes open!
" cried like an Iranian woman over the Ayathollas casket the whole pitch."
-Now that's some serious dramatic imagery!
Cheers!

Well, the Ayatollah was from Iraq, so there might be some
ambiguity...

sheesh, i dunno man...
while i've done a bunch of routes of the same 'number' and even a couple with bigger numbers -- astroman remains surely (full package) the hardest route i've ever done.
it's a really mental route. the physically demandind part is obvious. and there is a whole lot of it. you need a partner whose head is in it -- more importantly one that can keep your head in it.
i did it first with 'B' - who led almost all of it. did it a second time with Lippy -- swapping pitches -- but at least that time i knew what i was in for (and hence sandbagged the sh!t out of him.)
the idea of doing it with someone plucked off the C4 pin-up board, or some i'net venue, strikes me as... well, counter-indicated (counter-intuitive?).
~~~
i once signed up (via the C4 pin-ups) with this swedish guy who claimed to be absolutely solid leading anything and everything 12a, and then some. he wanted to do NWF/HD. much bravado and massive pec's. he of course looked at me funny, and understandably so. i did make a point of taking him on a test drive up on Reeds and the Cookie. thank Bobo i didn't head straight off to half dome with him. fooki'n chipmunk.
~~~
so unless you have astroman already wired -- and you well may, i don't know you -- what's the rush? wait until you find someone you really link up with over much mileage and then do it. it'll still be there. it is a magnificent route -- and a big one (you'll pull muscles you didn't even know you had, promise). hence worthy and righteous -- but do it with a soul mate. if only to add to the joy.
thinking of Croft will either give you a brain cramp or keep your head in it. for me, that forever recurring thought did both.
like i said, it's a cerebral route. and physical. and long. do it with someone you really connect with -- someone who will keep you connected. someone you can do the same for. do it right.
well, fwiw

Any idea on who has climbed it the most?
I would have to guess Werner, because he is Astroman!
Anyone remember that ad? That pic scared the crap out of me. He appeared to be seriously running it out.

Well, Werner has done it more than 30 plus times. dont know the exact count. Its a great climb, but like Jay says. not so sure I would do it with someone I did not know.

Pip: "like i said, it's a cerebral route. and physical. and long. do it with someone you really connect with -- someone who will keep you connected. someone you can do the same for. do it right."
This succinctly echoes what I value most about my special days.
