So it looks like our next launch system The Ares 1 Rocket will consist of a solid rocket first stage. So my question is how do they do the roll and pitch over? Do they gimbal the solid rocket Nozzle?
Please Advise?

My understanding is that solid rocket motor nozzles are fixed and flight control within the atmosphere is accomplished using control surfaces or throttleable and gimballed steering rockets [liquid].
Looking forwatd to the 'Lost in Space' days.

I don't know specifically about the Aries, but there are two common thrust control schemes for controlling flight. Putting the nozzle on a gimble is one. The other is to put control surfaces IN the thrust stream. The V2 was the first rocket to do this, at least that I know of. SCUD missiles also used control surfaces in the thrust. The design for those uses graphite fins designed to slowly burn away.
As mentioned, additional control thrusters also work.

Having done work with solid fuel rockets for a living for a while, I think we should still defer this question to our friends: the North Koreans.
PS, good luck with your rocket Juan.

Yeah, it looks like the Solid Rocket first stage is gimballed.
The rocket has an escape tower like the Saturns so it is a lot safer than the shuttle. Whats cool is it will land with Parachutes at Edwards. That will be so cool to watch, what a great and modern world in which we live.
But keep this in mind. Obama plans to cancel all Nasa programs and give the money to illegals.
