Here's a tip to reset the memory on your ink cartridges so you can use all the ink out of them

I purchased some high-end ink on ebay and refill my cartridges. $20 and I can refill about 30+ times.

I had a Laserjet II toner cartridge, new in the package, but the 80's-era printer was long gone. I popped open a little hatch, and poured the black powder into my newer printer's dead toner cartridge and it works great now. I used a hot piece of steel tubing to cut a hole in the reused cartridge (no shavings inside, thanks) and used some aluminum vent pipe tape to cover it. I have at least one more fill-up, because the Laserjet II cartridge is huge, about twice the size of the modern one.

Those inkjet cartridges are a complete rip-off, and if you don't believe that, explain to me why HP, Lexmark, et al. practically give the printers away for free. A laserjet is much more cost-effective, especially if you're just doing B&W.

I took out my HP ink cartridge yesterday so I still had it available. Am I missing something? There is no hole. I pressed the paperclip end everywhere! No place for it to go into. Has this worked on someone else's HP inkjet printer? I use a cartridge 56 at work and a 21 at home and no where on either do I see this hole of which the youtube video speaks. Help!

The HP's apparently don't have holes. Just refill it and forget it's telling you it's empty. Get the ink on ebay. There is cheaper stuff and a little more expensive stuff. Spend the extra $10. I've been riding it for a year now on the same cartridge's.

You can get a refill kit at Fry's, if they have not filed Chapter 11 by now.

Or Staples has a recycle deal for Generic cartridges which is the cheapest "don't want toner on the carpet" route.

Or WallMart if you want to drive the economy down even further.

Other tricks:
1. When the cartridge allegedly is getting low, take it out and shake it thoroughly.
2. Ignore the "replace cartridge" warning, until the print quality is visibly affected, or it stops printing.
