Being a band director, I came across this and wanted to share.

The Venezuelan government's youth orchestra program is considered by many to be the most successful music education project in the world. Thirty years ago, Venezuela’s music education program started with 11 students. Now, a quarter of a million kids participate in the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra System. Today we find out what the United States can learn from "El Systema." The sense of nationalism that has been reborn through music....beautiful!

Thanks locker-

Way back when I was working on my bachelor's, I had to do some field work at a local lab school. One of the classes I created dealt with special ed kids in which I had them paint what they heard. I would change the music every minute to a completely different genre as they would continue with the same painting. They then presented their paintings and explained where their expression of the different pieces were. It was a great experience for both the kids and myself! Learned a lot through that activity...

Wow! Very, very cool.

This is exactly why I love the taco-

If you ever get the chance, I'm curious to his take on John Cage's Chess Pieces. Does he think it was actually meant to be played or simply a visual piece of art? Also if he meant it to be played, did he try purposefully to capture a "short chess match" where pieces are captured through the harmonic structure? It's quite bizzare...

Alright Jay-

First and foremost, it IS a climber's website. But climbers talk plenty about many other things besides climbing around the fire... Personally, I have not found any other forum that contains such a beautiful combination of intelligence and wit.

And sarcasm.
