Carter? Thats BS. Mostly had some bad luck like Reagan had good luck.
Let's not forget that it's nearly proved that Reagan convinced the Iranians to hold the hostages LONGER so they could be released at his inauguration.

Nixon was head and shoulders above Reagan and Bush. He just got caught and had no charm. Reagan was almost caught but folks liked him so they didn't bother to press Iran-Contra (worse than Watergate arguably)
Bush is worst by a long shot though.

Carter's failure to respond immediately and with strength to the Iranian attack on our embassy and the subsequent kidnapping of the staff sent a message to the Islamists that we are paying for today. An attack on an embassy by the host country is an act of war; we caved. That and our subsequent fecklessness to respond to kidnapping and murders of US officials, the killing of the Marines in Lebanon and Clinton's do nothing response to terrorist attacks throughout his presidency all have led us to this point. When a nation cowers, retreats and whimpers in the face of aggression; there will be more aggression.
From Carter through Clinton, we failed to deal effectively with the growth and aggression of terrorism. Bush is trying in his less than competent way. How all this will turn out, I don't know. However, the world is a far more dangerous place today because we didn't deal with this issue effectively early on.

And two more incidents that we failed to deal with: the Pueblo incident and the Israeli"s attack on our spyship (name ?). There must be a severe penalty for anyone that pulls that kind of sh&t on us. With the Israelis we should have immediately condemned them for what occurred and made it clear that all aide would be with held until those responsible for ordering the attack were turned over to us. That would have put them in a terrible bind considering the war. We should have made them hurt significantly for that stab in the back.
We should have sent one of our fleets right up against N. Korea and given them an ultimatum to release the ship and crew or face serious military consequences, and meant it.
The US must make it clear that we are not to be messed with or there will be retaliation beyond what damage has been done to us.
Those hostile to us should be terrified of pissing us off. As long as they respect us we can work on our differences. If we are not respectfully feared by those hostile to us, they will continue their assault in one manner or another. Keep in mind that those presently our primary enemies come from "honor" cultures. They respect force and power above all; all else they define as weakness.

Don't forget ol' Woodrow Wilson. . .he was a real gem too!
But you guys are on the right track with the three stooges in
chains. Carter wasn't a good president--he was an honest man,
and look at the work he has done since he's left office--not just using his name to make the big bucks. A Nobel Peace Prize,
his work for Habitat for Humanity, election monitoring all over
the world. Certainly someone who's done a lot more since he left office than while he occupied it.

Well since I saw Kennedy from my dads shoulders way before I could vote. I would have to say we have been going down hill for as long as I knew what a president was. Last few dances we have been falling and slipping faster I must say.
How much lower can we go?
