My daughter tired of all the chatter at Area 13 yesterday. We headed across to the west side of the Main Island to Maltese Falcon, where we had the whole area to ourselves. Her usual favorite is "Porridge." This time, I noticed a nine-bolt route immediately to the left of it that looked interesting:

Nine bolts. Low angle slab start, to blocks, to dihedrals, to face, to this HUGE signature flake on a vertical face that must have been 15 feet long. Airy finish. Well-protected crux is between bolt seven and eight.

It's not in the Mammoth guidebook. Marty Lewis says he doesn't know of it. Alan Hirahara didn't respond to e-mail. It went up sometime in the past eight years.

Anyone?

I noticed that last weekend, too - don't know what it is, but it looked nice.
Maltese Falcon is loads of fun as well.

Here's the pix at the crux, between bolts 7 and 8 of the 9 bolter. Photo only shows top half of the route.

I was just on it yesterday,by mistake, but sent it anyway clean. I can call Allen, but he's been away from Mammouth for a while now, so I'm guessing he may not know. My guess is its in the 10d/11a range? Your thoughts?

From that picture, it's right between Porridge and Shadow...
