Jon arrived back in Fremantle, Western Australia on the 22 of Jan to complete his 8th circumnavigation.

We all have our heroes. For me it was Shipton, Tillman, Buhl, Terray, Bonnati and host of others and in sailing it was Slocum, Pidgeon, Tabarly and now the amazing Australian Jon Sanders who has just completed his 8th circumnavigation at age 71.

Imagine spending 658 days alone on a sailboat as you circled the world three times non stop! Of course he had the experience from his previous Double nonstop circumnavigation to fall back on. Or for another perspective, spending 22 months alone on an isolated mountain to accomplish a solo ascent.

Sanders' records include:
▪ 1970 First solo circumnavigation trip east to west mostly sailing through tropics.
▪ 1981-82 Double nonstop solo circumnavigation west to east via Southern Ocean.
▪ Triple non-stop solo circumnavigation:
▪ 1986 May 25 left Fremantle headed east.
▪ 1987 January 29 Rendezvous off Fremantle to mark first circumnavigation.
▪ 1988 March 13 returned from 658 days 21 hours and 18 minutes at sea, completing three non-stop solo circumnavigations.
The Guinness World Book of Records cites this as longest distance ever sailed continuously by any vessel. (71,023 nautical miles)

Wow. That's impressive. Wonder what he does with all that time?

I would think he would have time to do a fair bit of fishing.

BTW does that mean he never resupplied or would he just get stuff from another boat.

Outstanding. Is there a second boat, not shown, that he tows to bring his beer supply?

Jon is a very cool guy and is the mentor to a good friend of mine Brian Caldwell who at one time was the youngest lad to circumnavigate, many years ago.

Awesome! I guess he gets along with his crew. I trust this latest wee jaunt
was drier and that he got to eat lunch more regularly. Like a lot of 'quiet'
types I'd wager he is good company, especially when prompted by our Guido.
Oh, to be a fly on that bulkhead!
