Can't tell you how I feel today.......It wasn't that high or that hard, but it was great to finally pull one off. My life which has been such a crazy chaos mix of challenge for survival and adventure the past couple years seems more settled today. Doing something mentally I have never been able to do has given me a calmness and serenity I've rarely experienced.
I have never climbed a boulder high enough that at one point commitment to the problem needed to be made. Yesterday at Tenaya East it happened. The problem was not difficult, but for me it was a real achievement. I had to commit mentally to finish the problem. I knew physically I could easily pull it off....it was the mental aspect that was so very important to me.
Now I understand why people love bouldering. Topping out successfully was like eating 10 spoons of Wasabi all at once. What a rush. :D
But more importantly it was a moment of reckoning for lynnie. How many times over the last several years (last time was a nice boulder problem across from Bridal Veil Falls parking lot) I would make the first couple moves and then back off.
This time I examined the problem, knew I could do it if I didn't weak out mind wise, and I had a great tall, strong spotter and a borrowed pad.
That evening at TPR I saw a bitd friend. He wondered aloud (and rightly so)
why someone my age would do such a thing. I thought about it long and hard.

Lynne-
Good on you!! I completely understand the need to do just what you did.. to make something of a break with the recent past and accomplish something "on your own hook!" Keep at it, but keep focussed and controlled, as well.

Thanks Guys, headed back to TPR. Will check in tomorrow. Don't know if I'll do any more or how many......I just needed to be able to pull this one off at this point in my life. Cheers !

Lynne,
this is great for you, but be careful of seeking external recognition and affirmation for those achievements that you pull off at the risk of personal harm; it might become a habit to listen to others rather than yourself when you engage in those activities. That would not be good.

and as another friend once cautioned "always climb with a rope" he knew what he was talking about

Good on you. Climbing allows you to make those distinct forays into a wilderness where you are ACTUALLY making decisions, real decisions, that matter.

Hyper-extended his foot so bad they almost had to amputate it

Just stay focused and be mindful of your landings if you peel. I wrenched my leg doing some highballs this weekend. Nothing major though.

Still looking forward to crossing paths, we'll be up in the valley soon, right now we have been in Bozeman for a couple weeks. Great place but Yosemite beckons.

what kind of Wasabi? You know there is that wild stuff that knocks your socks off with 1 gram per 1 gallon of shoyu or there's that 50/50 stuff that most places sell.
