I learned what is possible about anchors from Bridwell.
The guy is a master of improvisation.
Without learning what was possible I probably would have been resigned to the bland world of bolt belays.

That is a photo (by me) of Jim on top of the big roof pitch on the Big Chill. I don't remember everything he had in, but I remember thinking the anchor was bomber, (so there were other pieces besides rurps) highlighted by the fact that the next pitch (mine) had 20 feet of 10c slab climbing straight off the anchor with a safe but sickening potential fall back over the roof.
These days people don't seem willing to haul or bivy unless they have bolts, alas, the art of big wall anchoring has faded along with our hair...
