So a friend of mine just moved to Cabo san Lucas in Mexico. After looking at his pics it looks like he might be near some stellar climbing. Anyone know anything about the area? He does not climb, so I would like info about the rocks from a climber. When I visit him should I bring my gear, or just plan on drinking lots of tequila and flirting with the cute latinas? ( I plan on the latter regardless, just want to know if any hungover climbing will be happening)

Search the forum, there's been threads.

My answer bring a pair of shoes only to boulder on the grainy granite by the arch over the sand.

Cabo is for surfing.

Try the walk along the shore towards the arch. There's some good sport climb and top-rope, and good splulangking I see some bolts while doing some splulangking.

I fly down there tomorrow for a week and am also interested in climbing locations around Cabo. Was thinking of taking my shoes just to boulder around the arch, but really would like to rope up on a few routes too, specially if they're located inland. Been going down there every year for the past three, but have stuck to the fishing, boating, snorkeling, drinking, relaxing, dancing, eating, surfing, off roading sort of stuff. This trip needs to include some rock!

You knows what 'gets' me, is that there is so much climbable rock on this planet that I will not get to touch or climb that it makes me wish I could live 1,000 years, or more (and be in climbing shape).

For example, this April (or so) I am planning a trip to Yangshuo (Dublin, Paris, Goa, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau and then Yangshuo) in Guilin, Guangxi Province, China. I hope to get a bit of climbing in.

Here is more:

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yangshuo

An excerpt from Wikipedia article:

Rock climbing in Yangshuo was first put on the map by American climber Todd Skinner who visited in 1992, establishing a number of classic lines such as "Moonwalker" which traverses the famous Moon Hill arch.

Much of recent climbing history has been influenced by the establishment of the Australian owned company Chinaclimb in 2001. Other companies that have contributed include Karstclimber, X-Climber and Spiderman Climbing.

Approximately 200 routes are documented in the current edition of the Paul Collis Yangshuo climbing guidebook, and new routes are being established almost daily. The majority of these have been established by visiting foreign climbers or expatriates. While most routes are single-pitch bolted sport climbing routes, a growing number of multi-pitch sport routes are appearing as climbers venture above the first anchor. There is also great potential for traditional climbing.

The Yangshuo region has numerous locations for climbing, most easily accessible by bicycle, public bus or taxi-van. The most famous of these crags is Moon Hill with several 5.13 graded lines, first climbed by American Todd Skinner in 1992. Other crags of note include Low Mountain, Twin Gates, Baby Frog, The Egg, Bamboo Grove and Wine Bottle Cliff.

Corsica apparently has some good climbing, both limestone and granite. We are thinking of buying a house there (or Provençe, where we have both worked).
