Although Denali has been the name used for years to identify the nation's highest mountain, officially it's still Mt McKinley. Obama has begun the process to change that to Denali.
He still has to get this through Congress. In previous attempts, the Ohio (William McKinley's home state) delegation has led the objections.

good, it is the right thing to do
The peak was named Mount McKinley in 1896 after a gold prospector exploring the region heard that Ohioan William McKinley, a champion of the gold standard, had won the Republican nomination for president.
But Alaska natives had long before called the mountain Denali, meaning "the High One." In 1975, the state of Alaska officially designated the mountain as Denali, and has since been pressing the federal government to do the same.

Darn: I have been a supporter of auctioning off naming rights in hopes that MacDonalds would bid enough to balance the Federal budget, then rename Denali "BIG MAC." (In a perfect universe they would also buy naming rights for Mt. Foraker & rename it "Mt. Cheeseburgler;)"

Cool! About time.
And actually he does not need to go through congress. The Geographic board had been deferring to congress and failed to act for 40 years. A 1947 law allows the Secretary of the Interior to take action if after a reasonable amount of time the board fails to act.
The mountain is now officially Denali in US law or will be tomorrow.
I'll bet Trump can't wait to be president. He loves to name things.

Mount McKinley is a stupid name to begin with.
The idiot egotist westerner white man has no clue.
Just like the fools renamed Chomolungma to Mt Everest.
Denali it always is.
Stoopid clueless westerner fools have no clue WTF they're doing half the time or more .....

Hey Werner, that reminds me of the Berkeley clan a couple years back that we fought and beat that wanted to change North Palisade to that egotist westerners name. Hell, they even tried to be sneaky and got Boxer & Feinstien to pull a fast one in D.C. with Obama to do so. FAIL! We cut there sneaky asses off at the "Notch".
Now what was that Westerner dudes name.... I believe it started with a "B".
Denali it should be.

Good.
Here’s a few more to change back:
Mt Hood, Oregon = Wyeast
Mt St Helens = Loowit
Mt Rainier, Washington = Tahoma
Mt Adams, I’m a bit torn the First Nation names Pahto or Klicktat are a bit harsh, I’d settle for Yakima.
Mt Jefferson, Oregon = Mt Jefferson (You have to give the pioneer's patron saint his due.)
Mt Washington, Oregon = Squaw Tit or if that just blows a gasket in your SJW mind how about Perky Nipple A Cup Mountain.

Chief Peter John of Minto, for whom the mountain was an entity on the southwest horizon, called it "The McKinley"... He was being tongue in cheek, the MInto people had a different Athabaskan name for the mountain, "Tenada", I think, or maybe "Traleika," so he called it by the gussok name instead of "Denali"

Denali, Tenada, Doleyka, Traleyka, Bulshaia Gora, Densmore's Peak, Big Mac, McKinley
It's best to call it McKinley to differentiate it from Denali Park

Oh yeah! This is suppose to be a kind of an appeasement since he's allowing the oil companies open access to the Arctic!
I know that we are suppose to believe he is a socialist, but I think he has been nothing but another goddamn republicrat!

Don't worry Ward, we can always count on you too!
Crucial distinction is that Obama is The President representing all of America. Ward only represents himself. Obama thumbs his nose at that obligation. He is a radical extremist with an agenda ---and that agenda is nothing less than the transformation of this country to ,among other things ,reflect Obama's overblown pathologically narcissistic ego.
Personally I don't care if they name that mountain " big icy climbers toilet " and the Narcissist in Chief could have shut his big mouth and made sure the bureaucratic name change took place under the radar-- but instead he decides to openly and arrogantly announce it.
What an as#@&%e.Seriously King-sized.
