Sup yall.
Is the road to Fresno Dome clear enough to navigate with a standard 4wd without getting stuck yet? How about Lost Eagle. Seems kinda lowish in ele. Any intel would be great.
Thanks.

Grahm, Leo, and I were up at Fresno Dome last weekend on Snowmobiles. There is still about 5' of snow at the trailhead. After this warm week you can probably get to the turn just past Kelty Meadow Campground, but will still have 4 or 5 miles of solid snow over the road. It'll definitely be a few more weeks.
Access to Lost Eagle will be even worse. Coming up Minarets you can get about 4-5 miles up Grizzly before hitting too much snow to continue. Getting up there via Beasore you can only get within 3 or 4 miles of Colds Spring Summit.
Easiest access right now in SoYo is Chiquito Dome from the lower trail (completely clear), or Grey/Red/Electric/Minera (you can get a little ways up the Shuteye Road and will just need to add an extra mile and a half or two to your approach.

Has anybody been up to Fresno Dome AKA Wamello yet this year? I'm thinking of going up there this weekend. Usually I would just go up there and bash my way through any snow patches but I don't have a 4WD available right now.
I betting we are pretty close to peak mosquito season.

I'm curious on an update too (for Wamello aka Fresno). I got a re-match to do up there...
It's gotta be close to ready for at least 4WD.

That's what DEET is for. I know, I hate it too, but I hate a dozen itchy mosquito bites and ticks even more.

Friends have been up there very recently, hiking in from the lower approach, which hits Hawk Dome first. Pretty basic to the base of the S. Pillar from there.

Thanks, Nate. I'm still hoping someone knows if the upper approach is doable yet.

I highly doubt there is ANY way you can drive the upper approach now. LOT'S of snow above 6500 in shaded corners on other sunnier roads in the area as of yesterday. 10ft snow drifts starting around 6500. I would say another week if it's sunny this week but prolly more like two since the forcast isn't hot and windy.
Next question is how much do you like snow? Sure you could hike in along the road then drop down...I was above Fresno dome elevation in the general area sat...Lot's of fun hiking and butt glissading descents. Happy rivers running under the snow - suck when the snow gives ;)
And for L.E NO WAY without a snowmobile - that will be a while...

Forest Service was up on Beasore today with a dozer and chainsaws. You can drive the entire loop now from Beasore over to Minarets. Looks like they want to get everything opened up soon as well.
Didn't get a chance to check on Grizzly but from the looks of things around there, I'd bet you can get to Lost Eagle or at least close enough to make it worth the walk.
No word yet on Fresno Dome, if you can't get all the way to the main trailhead, I'm guessing you can get pretty darn close. Lower access is definitely open.
