I did some bouldering today at the Idyllwild County Park boulders, a place I have frequented for decades. Those of you who have been there are very familiar with the X-Crack boulder.

I have noticed some changes to that problem over the years, and they don't seem likely to have occurred due to natural changes. Years ago, in the middle of that face, there was a small, loose block that was trapped in one of intersecting fractures- eventually, this block disappeared, creating a convenient pocket/edge for pulling.

Today I noted that one of edges on the right side of this problem had been 'altered' in some manner- can't tell how, but it something fractured a somewhat moderate edge into a much larger feature. Given the hardness of this granite, and the way it was fractured, 'natural' exfoliation/erosion is not the source.

WTF? Anybody else notice this, or know anything about it? This little boulder problem is miniscule in the grand scheme of climbing, but it saddened me greatly, nonetheless.

Some folks have less love and respect for a stone, mon.
Ya see it all over. It DOES make one sad.

It was part of a budget cut by the State. Cali can't afford all the crack, so some had to go.

"break out the hammer and make that damn problem go!"

That problem is very, very moderate by today's bouldering standards. What say you put down the keyboard and learn how to climb....?

So you know the problem, then, eh x15?

Setting our snarky comments aside, what do you really think about these 'modifications'?
