Oakland: what's not to love?
Topic Author's Original Post - Jun 17, 2008 - 02:41pm PT

From 12,500 MSL:

The northern terminus of the Whites:

A look at the snow on Tenaya, for Impaler:

I feel incredibly lucky to live near the Sierra, and always feel dumbfounded at my fortune when I get to fly over them like this.
As cool as it is to fly over, though, it can't touch being on foot and moving over terrain, INSIDE the anatomy of the mountains. You can't breathe the Sierra from a cockpit, and the whole affair is over much too quick - then you're over Modesto, fretting about that fog over the Bay, and getting your sh#t together for the IFR shuffle.

There's no place like the Sierra.

Khanom that's it you need to head for the little town near by your dirt lot and talk to some regular people at the grocery store or something but please stay away from the post office.

I say that becuase Ted Kaczynski said that he was mad at the planes that would fly over his Montana cabin and disturb him. He was a little disturbed also.

check out that link and we can discuss how many things you find you agree with.

Like in Oakland, there's a lot of "there", there.

Khanom, sheesh, I'm in alignment with many of your views that you get slammed for here, but that's a bit harsh, coming from a guy who lives fulltime in a gas hemorager, lighten up, maybe?

So fun to play 'name that peak' as you scroll through there. That was great! And Khanom, woah! you might want to chill out a tiny--maybe go do some climbing! ha.

Talk about flyovers, those astronauts are in big trouble!

Seriously, Isn't our planet incredible, so full of beauty and wonderment? Viewing the massive loveliness of the Sierra puts life back into perspective for me.

Question: What type of plane were you taking the pics from. Note a lot of "under wing" in the pic. Then some with no wing. Were these taken from window?

Thank you for taking the time to post these more than special photos...kinda calms the heart and soul knowing there is so much pure living art out there.

For as dry as it was this spring, it's amazing to see how much snow is still lingering out there.

And the more posts I read from "khanom", the more I hope to never meet him. Good greif is right!

Beautiful photos. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm psyched you'd take time to fly over and share the beauty with all of us. Very thoughtful!

Bryce,

Nice work. Best of both worlds---flying your plane and getting great shots. Strong work as usual.

How did your solo of the Prow go?
