I say we fire all the teachers.
If The Government wants to provide education, they can send out instructional DVDs to parents, and it will be the job of the parents to make sure their kids watch and learn.
There's no reason we should be educating kids now in the Twenty-First Century the same way we did when Abraham Lincoln was a kid.

LOL Chaz, I wish you were kidding but I doubt you are. Oh well..... so if I kid has crappy parents then the kid is doubly hosed. Lousy parents and no help from those who might know better. This would just continue the cycle of poverty. I would rather give those kids a chance to break out of the cycle of poverty. Do you really trust every parent to do the right thing?

If a kid's parents don't care enough to educate their little bastard, why the hell should The Taxpayers?
In almost EVERY instance, the kid's parents will do a far superior job of educating their kids than The Government ever could.

With so many American households having to work multiple jobs just to put food on the table and keep the creditors at bay when would parents have time to teach??
It is the civic duty and moral obligation of this country to fund public education. Teachers do an incredible job of educating in spite of Herculean obstacles and ignorant detractors like Chaz.
What is it Chaz do you hate kids or is it all of America that you despise?
I hear China, that bastion of free speech and liberty, is looking for a director of imposed ignorance.
Send your resume. All of America will be so proud of you.

Include a DVD on how to perform your own health care, heart surgery, replacing fingers, diagnosing diabites, etc, etc.
Since teachers are living in poverty, and most Americans can no longer afford health care, send em a DVD for $25.00 bucks on the whole kick and kaboodle.

Chelsea went to public school for K-8 then private school once her father became prez...kinda makes sense for security reasons...eh?
This was according to Hillary at the YouTube democratic debate.
Starting a war for no reason other than economic dependence on foreign nonrenewable oil under a complete lie (WMA) is not very smart security for our children now and especially not in the future. So I'd rather have a "bleeding heart liberal" in office that actually wants to accomplish something positive than an idiot, war monger whose out to make Americans the most hated people on the planet.
I understand that Vouchers may be an immediate reason to jump start the education in this country, but starting a war and selling billions of dollars of weapons to the Saudis surely is not! Where will this money go? Surely not to fixing any real problems.
But what do you care? You're old...it isn't your problem is it?
LEB...why don't you and CHAZ go get your substitute teaching license and GIVE BACK TO THE PEOPLE for a change!

Unfortunately the "more qualified" teachers can not afford to be teachers and have bailed to the private sector.
Private vouchers do not address the overall condition of education nor will it address seperation of church and state.
Charter schools, from my understanding of them, seem to offer a creative solution to the All Children Left Behind Act. Maybe LEB or someone can exlain the charter school better than I.
Funding and discipline seem to be the major issues facing our system. Recently a thread quoted the number of drop outs in this country per day and it was stagering. Fund the schools now and we will nor have to fund the prisons later. Education over incarceration.
Nevada has a moto on their State Education web site..."an education without art is not an education". We have taken creativity out of our schools and it leads to drop outs, violence and no hope. Music, Art and Drama feed kids souls and inspire them to think positive and love life.
