One day a few autumns ago, Jack showed up in our yard proudly carrying a deer leg much like the one in your photo. I tossed that away and asked him not to bring home any more.
The next day, however, he showed up with a second deer leg. And the day after that, with a third. On the fifth day we found parts of the spine in our yard.
Then one night, as I walked through our yard in the dark, my foot hit something that I could tell by the thud was a head.
So was Jack a neighborhood terror? Not quite. The deer parts he was proudly bringing home came from the same deer, of course, which had been killed by a hunter out in the woods. The hunter had taken home the meat and left the rest of the carcass to rot, not far from several houses.
Alas that's not the only time something similar happened. For a tale with a truly bizarre twist, read through the first page of this ST thread:

As a kid growing up right on the ocean...
It was common when you washed a dog that you would have to tie'm up for half a day and let them roll in the dirt a bit.
Otherwise they would immediately take off after the bathing and run down to the local lobsterman's pier and dive into a bait barrel.
They would come home with their nose in the air and proud strut in their gait, as if to say 'Foo on you, no I smell manly again'.
