Boys,
Got on my Girdle Traverse SFR (Single Family Residence) today while repairing sprinkler heads in the front yard. Cassidy was playing on the front yard grass as I clipped in an aider and yarded into the first placement. While attempting to lever/reach for the next horizontal placement, I suddenly heard a distinct "ripping" sound, and the next thing I knew I was falling like my Fing 403(b) investment. I reacted quickly enough to extend my right leg backwards just before hitting the concrete walkway. My knee buckled, the momentum carried me "ass over Tea Kettle" and I landed flat on my ass in the grass with a resounding "thump".
ANALYSIS
The 3mm cord used to thread a 5/16th bored hole in the Fing rafter tail was inadequate in supporting the Fing heft of this climber. Further investigation found that this 3mm cord was the same cord that had been sitting on the roof for the past three months after Cassidy flung it on the roof. Clearly, the suns rays had diminished the strength of this cord by a good 50 percent. Climber was not wearing a helmet during this ascent and could have been more seriously injured. He is very lucky to have walked away with nothing more than a sore ass !!
Care should be taken by Fing "over the hill", "El Cap Wannabes" , attempting to train by putting up artificial routes on Fing residences, to mix in a Fing sense of reality in realizing that hanging off of rafter tails doesn't have the slightest Fing application to even A1 pitches on El Capitan. Clearly, the injured climber would have been better off accessing porn from the relative safety of his computer and viciously "spanking the monkey" to build up the necessary arm strength.

I think they named that climb on Deto (El Cracko Diablo) for that dashing young principal. But has he been around the corner to the teacher's Lounge?

Jaybro,
No Teachers Lounge, but by "buildering" antics at school have got the attention of the district office! Any kid at my school knows that if a ball, backpack, or tennis shoe somehow ends up on the classroom roof, Mr. Porter is the man to see. I currently have a dozen independent routes to the top of various classroom buildings on my site which give me immediate access to rooftops. My personal favorite on Building M, is the waterpipe - to a finger traverse - to a slap and roof mantel. I recently got a memo from our Risk Management department which read, "Please discontinue the practice of climbing buildings to retrieve articles lost by students. The proper procedure is to contact the custodian who has a ladder for this purpose". My custodian has "issues" with heights, so I have chosen NOT to discontinue this practice.
