So is this place actually closed for nesting? I remember going up there in late november (long after most birds ween their chicks) and saw the closure sign. I talked to someone in Santa Cruz and he said the closure is not active, the signs are just still up. What's the real deal? Anyone know?

I was wondering about this myself back in November -

They said it would probably be closed through spring. The phone number for the rangers in on that thread, if you want to get an update.

The last time I was up there was Jan. 13th - the signs were still posted.

Just drive up there and check. If it's closed there should be small white/black signs indicating so at the gate.

If closed, go to Castle or Aquarian or Indian.

The closure sign looks like this;

"Possible hazards"?

Those must be tough birds.

They can attain speeds in excess of 200 mph while diving for prey. Tough birds indeed.

That's more energy than a .45 ACP.

Yah, I'd hate to be the fool trying to lead while mama falcon is defending her chicks =:-O

Well, didn't go to Summit but there were a TON of cars there when i drove by. Went to Goat Rock instead; that roof was one of the scarier topropes I've ever done. I guess it didn't help that there was a UCSC student screaming about how she didn't want to die about 30 feet to my right. Billy Goat rock was pretty rad though, only one leadable climb however.

I guess I'll try to get a ranger on the phone about Summit Rock.

Try Mt. Doom next time Allez, really nice location, cool routes. Beware of bats in huecos/holes.
