Disclaimers:

1. This first image is both awesome in its magnitude and power. However, let's not lose sight of the fact that one person died and four others injured including one who remains paralyzed. This was the 1996 slide of 162,000 tons of granite.

2. First image by Ed Youmans.

3. Second image by Tom Trujillo. I had not seen this one previously. It is of the most recent Curry slide.

How do they always come up with these numbers? Some ball park number?

Wild guess?

162,000 tons of granite sounds just like that, a number.

But when the rocks start falling all those numbers mean absolutely nothing. Nice photos.
