``It’s just a big exercise. When you’re working with 1.6km of rope, one tangle ruins the day because it takes hours to get it out.’’
Ro-sham-bo for flaking the rope after a climb.

I don't know the distance, but back in the early 70's
some folks did that over Roy Gap Road at Seneca Rocks.
Probably not a km, but real far. . .
That rope handling was a bugger, and I sure wasn't gonna
go across that thing. . . I remember when one spool of rope
came down, it blotted out the sun. Thank goodness for the overhang. . .

Oh great, now it's only a matter of time before some boneheads string one up from Middle Cathedral to El Cap.
Not that I wouldn't give it a go.

Hmmm... you might have something from Higher Cathedral over to the Nose... would need some assistance with traffic management on the roads below...

"Hmmm... you might have something from Higher Cathedral over to the Nose..."
Two ropes were made that were hopefully going to be used for just that. From what I understand opinions were that authorities would not allow such a scenario.
I helped set up a tyrolean with a single 6500ft static that was ridden for at least 5200ft in 1987. The two statics that were made to span the valley were perhaps the longest static lines made at over 8500ft per line.
