Bard-Harrington was bone dry last year!

Ah well, guess we'll make the treck to Utah.

Cheers!

Chouinard would use his ice axe. You do have an ice axe, right?

The first time I climbed the BH in Feb. 2005 it was fat, even moreso in 2006 and 2007. But the old-timers tell me it used to be much thinner in previous years (though not sure if there were years when it was completely dry).

I didn't get out to LVC last season for obvious reasons, but I hear the Main Wall was in better shape than 2007 and Chouinard Falls was ok.

Not sure what to make of all these east side rumors :)

Ya, Anastasia. But I'm way down here in socal. Someone that's around there should stroll on by and take a good swing at it :-)

Last year Main Wall was pretty good and Chouinard was FAT.

Yes there were years where it was completely dry.
And I resent being called an old timer. However true it may be.

Last year in LV was a bummer, though I only peeked in there once during the season. It is a small area and, after many years, I've climbed most (though not all) of the lines. It is about 6 hours to LV from LA, and only 8+ to southern UT (Joe's, Maple), 9 to Provo or Santaquin, 12 to the San Juans. Those last few double the driving time, but the southern Utah ice can be great when in nick. If I didn't have environmental guilt, I hit the Icefields Parkway more frequently, as the flight to Calgary and the drive up to the ice is just about the same as the drive to Lee Vining.

Still, I, for one, would be happy if ol' Lee Vining mysteriously got fat again. It's a nice place, and having the BH wall in condition adds some longer routes and some nice mixed alternatives to the stuff on the main wall.
