Hey there.

I am in Arizona for sister's wedding, over from Europe, and until 8th Dec, based in Chandler, Phoenix. I am hoping to do some climbing here. I am looking for good people whom I can join on their climbs, even if it is just to get the feel of the area and get out there, near the rocks.

Any pointers and suggestions are welcome, as I don't know much about climbs here apart from the stuff I found on the Internet according to which Sedona might be the nearest option as well as an amazing area to climb. Although on this Mission to Mars, the easiest route (5.10c) would be a lead challenge for me, as I gather from the online grade conversion tables.

Sedona is not the closest climbing to Phoenix. That would be Pinnacle Peak, Camelback Mountain, McDowell Mountains, and Queen Creek.

Still, lots of routes in Sedona easier than 5.10c...

Mars Attacks (5.8)
Queen Victoria, Regular Route (5.7)
Dr. Rubos Wild Ride (5.9)
Streaker Spire (5.7+)
The Mace, Original Route (5.9+)
Tisha Spire, North Face (5.7)
Screaming Basengi (5.8)
Bell Rock, Kamps Route (5.8)
Chimney Rock, Original Route (5.7)

Great stuff. Now I need a climbing partner :-)
I did see those Camelback Mountains from a hike spot, Southern Mountains, yesterday.

So, here is what I would like to do, ideally - try out the surrounding area till the wedding (Friday) and then maybe take off for a few days, bit further, bit more remote. Hopefully. If anyone is up for it, let me know.

Too bad you're leaving when you are. I'm heading to Chandler around the holidays to visit family and will likely be putting up a thread similar to this in about a month :)

A few years back while visiting I managed to find a partner for some day climbing out at Queen Creek east of Phoenix. It's not a bad drive from Chandler, I think it was about 90 minutes or so.

Also, there's a pretty good sized climbing gym nearby in Tempe. I think it's called the Phoenix Rock Gym. You can always head over there and put up a post with your contact info and that you're looking for partners. You'll probably have better luck with that for finding local partners to climb around the Phoenix area.

Hi all, thanks for your info. I don't know if you'll ever get to see this reply - I can see this forum is massive and very active, I'm forgetting how large your country is.
Thanks for your thoughts Flouride, would have been cool if visited our families at the same time... and was it you that put that red sine stuff? Gosh, please dont bleach it or chemicalise it in any way! Such actions are bound to affect the place much more. Red wine is innocent compared to those strong chemicals, the nature will do its course.

Try heading over to mountainproject.com and posting up the same thing in the Arizona forum.
There are quite a few folks that read that and might be up for some climbing.
