Looking to climb Nose in middle of November (I have business trip :) )
What is good way to drive to El-Cap.
I will drive from Las-Vegas. What type of car I should have (should I look for chains)?
What will be weather?
Thanks!

The Tioga pass road will be closed, so you will have to go in through the southwest, AKA the 41. Possible accumulation of SNOW on the ground.
Thats about all I can say....others will have better info. It will be cold most likely.

I did the nose last Nov. and it was so hot that we ended up rationing our water down to the last sips.
Just be ready for anything... have fun.

Pavel just wrote me to tell me it's his intention to solo The Nose in November, not climb it with a partner.
Pavel, the weather in November can be ANYTHING. You could have perfect warm sunny autumn weather with cool crisp nights, or you could get hammered with a bad storm of rain and even snow. So if you go up on the Big Stone in November, you must have adequate storm protection and clothing. You also have to have a radio, and someone to talk to on the ground.
The best way to guarantee your success is to have extra TIME, but when you live in Moscow, you might not have very much. Another way would be to find a partner, so that you can climb the wall more quickly. There are plenty of people here in California who might be willing to climb a wall with a visiting Russkie. Hey - do you have Russian Aiders????
I guess if you're from Moscow, you know how to drive in the snow! You'll have to check the driving conditions before you go, to see if you can make it over Tioga Pass or knott. You can go to www.mapquest.com and input your starting and finishing locations in the "directions" section, and find different routes to travel.
No matter what, though - get your ass to Yosemite when you are in Amerika! For not to get to the Valley would be tantamount to sin.
Sorry I won't be here when you are. Maybe catch you some other time, eh?
Cheers,
Pete

Maybe so, maybe not. It's very, very often open until thanksgiving.
