Anyone have any good beta on cleaning two brand new dry ropes that a cat has pissed on. He was obviously pissed we left for two weeks to go climbing. I am at a bit of a loss. I hate to throw them away but they are nasty! Hanging the cat from them seems the best answer but that doesn't help the ropes.

No. Under most circumstances, you could use Woolite, but not with cat urine. I'm sue there are some ST people with chemistry info that will have the final answer. I wouldn't be too optimistic.

Cat piss is not harmful if washed off within a few minutes of contact. It's a problem if it sits for a few days or weeks. Sounds like yours could be in the days or weeks category.
It's possible to wash the smell out, unfortunately that requires some rather aggressive detergents.
Your rope, I'm afraid, has met its match.

PS: There really hasn't been a true exhaustive study on the affects of cat urine. If you cat owners out there are willing to save up a few liters I'd be happy to conduct a thorough investigation.

Wash the ropes and the cat together. Perhaps the cat would learn something.

I'm afraid Jim E is right. You could wash the scent out,
but then I'd braid them into doormats.
My question is did you have a pet sitter take care of your
cats?
PS--next time, keep your ropes hung in the closet, along
with your rack & slings.

I had a cat piss on my A/DA Flanger one time.
Looked like sulfuric acid hit the circuit board.
Resistors were broken off at the leads, or almost etched to the point of breaking.
They looked like wind worn columns in the Utah desert somewhere.
Copper traces were melted off the pc board.
I do not kow what this cat's trip was, but he should have had a kidney transplant at some point during it's now prematurely terminated life cycle. Go ahead, call Pita. I have no fur coats in my closet.
You just find a tree doctor somewhere.
Swing it into the branch compactor by the tail as you drive by.
Ka-wumph! Over in seconds.
Then hit the Burger King drive thru and order a BK Fish.
