Not sure what Russ would suggest but I would say,
1. Put tape under the tear
2. Use Seam Grip® on the tear, making sure to cover the area completely and then some.
3. Let dry
4. Remove tape

Do you have the Caltrans orange fly to go with that fuchsia ledge?

Can't speak for Russ, but I'd guess you're fine. The parallel stitches in the upper right corner are solid and they are the ones that really take the load. Where the tear is will probably only spread as far as the double stitches unless the fabric is old, brittle, and really worn. You could do a home repair job with a speedy-stitch, or I hear Raydog can recommend somewhere knott to send it.

As for your amorous plans in the garage, fughetabout it! Either you lead a rich interior life or your better half is REALLY patient.

Send it back too Fish and have it repaired properly !

However if you are stuck for time and have to use it:

Dacron repair tape is bomber and has wicked adhesion.
I never tried the Kevlar tape yet.

A little Dacron repair tape n bus' out the 'speedy stitcher' or sailmaker's palm and blast a couple quick bartacks at the obvious strees points that might (keyword might) get the Dacron tape to peel.

'Speedy stticher' is a cool but a sailmaker's palm will do thre job way faster if you know how to use one and it is not rocket science to figure them out. A palm, needles and bee's wax worked for 100's of years and is still in use today for emergency repairs on virtually all deep water sailing craft.

Hi Jeff,

1998.... Marty(r) probably sewed that himself. VLG...You're FIRED!

Per Russ, "slap jacking in the garage voids the warranty".

As a test, set the ledge up and pound on it with your fist in the offending area. Don't stand on it just beat on it heavy duty style to see if the tear creeps at all and/or stops at sleeve where the tubing is. As you see that area has as many as 4 stitches in there and will likely stop catastrophic failure. All the same, better to know in the safety of your garage.

If it doesn't completely fail go on your trip then send it in for repair. Please stay tied in while on your ledge ;)

If it tears any more, take the bed apart and send just the bed on Monday for repair we'll do a quick turn around and have it back before you leave on Friday.

Whether you repair it now or after your trip. Just send the ledge bed itself and be sure to take photos of how it's put together. The suspension straps need to be set up just as they are now or you'll be hosed during the re-assembly.

Post a video of your testing. Anybody who's watching this thread on a Sunday afternoon is bored anyways.
