The weekend forecast called for record-breaking temperatures--mid 80's. Molly let me and Hard Rock have a day at Roof Rock, but wanted to reserve Sunday for a family outing.
"Have you found any boulders that I/we can climb with the kids?" she inquired.
"Yeah, I think so. There is a place close to the road with a good smattering of little pebbles that I nick-named the Bam Bam Boulders that we could check out."
With that motivation, we were soon packing the kidz and padz to see what we could find.
Mom started things out.
Ladd caught the fever his first time ON the rock and got pretty into it.
Lyddie was coaxed to try a line of dyke crystals on this pebble--way kid quality.
After a few successes, Lyddie went for a "high-ball".
Her descent involved Dad climbing to get her and pitching her onto the crash pad.
Even Dad got in on the action.
Pants might have helped me send this problem.
All in all, a great day on the stone, and after, we drove to nearby (5 min) Delmoe Lake for a cooling soak and picnic.

Mojede - nice pictures. You're making me jealous. I like the wet wipes by the crash pad in the first shot.
I got a dose of some demon pollen with the quick warm up; however, my son decided he should still get some practice in before the bash. Here he is mantling the coffee table.
the next day he got busted on top of the kitchen table.
Cheers, see you at the Bash.

Right on Kartch and Kartch Jr.--the fun part of being a climber-dad is that usually it is okay for them to climb (on) stuff, as long as they follow the rules. I started with, "You climbed up there, so you gotta climb down."
The game changes from then on.
Looking forward to getting together with y'all.
Pat, it's narrowing down to a few, but one is starting to stand out. I will take some camp panoramas and hillside/looking down pics to see what everybody thinks.
edit: a few more
She couldn't be persuaded to top it out and sit on the saddle, maybe next time out.
Hand-cracks may be size dependent, but that doesn't make 'em any easier.
Front view of that crystal dike thing Lyddie was on upthread.
The stone to the right of the previous.
The kids like looking at the stranger formations and naming them if they "kinda" look like an animal (or something familiar). Like us adults, ahem.
