We have talked movies here on SuperTaco many times and what impacts these movies have made on our lives.
I don't mind admitting that Indiana Jones IV --- "Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" is the most anticipated movie for me in a long, long time. Well, I guess most of the world can probably say that. I can't wait. It looks awesome.
So what has the character Indiana Jones meant to you? Why is the character so damn exciting, attractive (in a like kinda way; get your minds out of the gutter people except for the women), and popular, to so many people of all ages? What is it about Indiana Jones movies that are just sooo great?
If you haven't seen the trailer that was just released yesterday for IJ 4 (Valentine's) then you must be the last person on Earth who hasn't. Here you go:

I think Spielberg and Lucas are also making some necessary political statements in the newest Indiana Jones movie: Roswell 1947, Area 51, aliens, distrust of the US government. Looks like Indy gets worked over by our own US troops. They could be Russian soldiers in US uniforms? I don't know yet.
My favorite line so far:
"I thought you were a teacher?"
"Part-time."
I can see all teachers using that line (I will be), when students think we have no life outside of teaching. Don't all teachers stay at school grading papers after work, and sleep on a cot in their classrooms over night? Teachers aren't supposed to have real lives. I can happily say I have many other lives besides teaching.

It's hard not to love Indy. Swashbuckling archaeologist with winning smile, cool leather jacket and whip who always does the right thing.
Is it coming out soon? I'll see it for sure, but it will be interesting to see how nimble HF is looking these days, I can't remember the last time I saw one of his movies where he wasn't playing a doctor, wearing a tux, or otherwise looking stately and distinguished.

From all the images and video plus trailer they have now released, Harrison Ford looks to be in fine (great) shape.
Indiana Jones with some grey hair is inevidable. He still kicks butt, and Harrison wanted to do all his own stunts that he could do, and he did. He's in great shape for his age.
Some people age really well. I think Harrison is kinda like that. Maybe he isn't in awesome shape as Galen Rowell was for his age (62?) when he unfortunately left us too soon, but Harrison kicks butt. How old is Harrison, maybe 65?
Hey, 40 is the new 30, 50 is the new 40, and 60 is the new 50 etc. I think there is a lot of truth in that. I think many of us are far more active than our parents and grandparents were, and it pays off.
Climbing and adventure sports and a good frame of mind keeps us all younger.

If this doesn't wet your appetite, I'm not sure what will . . .
Indy is The Man.
Mutt: "I thought you were a teacher"
Indy: "Part-time"
Classic.

I just heard about it too, sorry... I don't watch television so I am off the main grid.
Indiana is endearing for we know by his actions that he is struggling with feelings of wanting to walk away from the drama. But since he has a conscious, he does good because he just can't see a way out of it. (He is character made real by the flaws of humanity.)
Plus, he tops it all off by chasing the sassy girl down and giving her a passionate kiss in some exotic location. (Now that is "romance" baby!)

It looks typically stupid.
Enteraining, sure.
Usefull political statements????
I doubt it.
But I'm one who thinks movies are never based in reality, and that most political points expressed in movies are just a bunch of crap.

Ana,
Nice insight. You are probably very right.
Hey anybody who might know,
I know we have some industry Hollywood types here on SuperTopo, not to mention JL et al. Is there anyone who climbs and also rigs for Hollywood, here on SuperTopo that may have worked on IJ4? Inquirying minds want to know.
Not asking for you to give away any secrets to the story, just wondering who here may have worked on the set of IJ4, and may have done some rigging for stunt work, etc.
Anyone here at ST involved with IJ4???? It would be fun to know.
