Started climbing in a gym (i know, i know...) when I was 14 or 15, so about two years ago. Quickly started bugging my mom to drop me off in the mountains for the weekend so i could camp and go climbing. I got a car over the summer which meant a lot more climbing for me! Now i try to go to joshua tree every weekend I can. None of my friends have any interest in trad climbing which means i have to find a partner every time I go. Ive met a lot of interesting folks out there in the rocks...

Can't remember when but I do recall that the first time I climbed the Captain the crux move was getting across the berschrund from the remnant glacier at the base to the rock.

Wow, everyone started so young. I started at age 18, which was 11 years ago. Back then we had to belay with the GriGri 1.

took a bouldering fall when I was 5 that was good for 5 stitches. did a lot of scrambleing on the rocks above the horse pasture and some failed rappelling there when i was a kid. I consider my first real climb to be a scramble up Teewinot in 1981.

1978 age 15.

Led 'Betty' (by accident; no guidebook) in the Gunks on a Goldline 120' cord, a standing hip belay, a few slings and some hexes and a few steel biners and a bowline on a coil (which made that short rope even shorter).

Was shocked to find a fixed piton. Shocked. Wanted to take the free gear home but (fortunately) didn't have a hammer.

Did both pitches and never tied in at the belay ledge (who would even get pulled off that thing?) or at the top.

Rappelled the route to descend because that's what real climbers do. The doubled rope was too short to reach the big belay ledge so I just jumped the final 8 feet. No biggie.

Lucky to be alive.
