I think this may be a joke.... even if it is not a joke it made me laugh.

From this article here, http://www.outsideonline.com/2099921/how-gender-affects-your-experience-climbing-gym

What does everybody think?

Those gyms are so brutal.

Oh Jesus H.
If the brutally sexist and hostile environment of a climbing gym is too much for someone, don't go to the climbing gym.

i don't think sexism falls under oxfords definition for microaggressions.

funny that an outdoor magazine would think a sportgyms should be void of nature;)

I hadn't heard the term microaggression before, so I looked it up.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microaggression_theory
I don't think "unwanted beta" usually is microaggression.
More like just a person trying to help (though can be unwanted, of course).
Unwanted staring is not microaggression, either. Though it's still unwanted.
Microaggression would be more like "Oh, you didn't make it up the 5.11c; well that's what I expected for a girl."

If the people who made the survey are trying to prove some kind of gender discrimination/bias, they need to correct for things like proportion by gender at the gym, and climbing ability of each respondent (and some distribution of climbing abilities at the gym).

So when many female respondents say they feel uncomfortable in some parts of the gym and it's related to not knowing what to do,
is it because they spent 20 minutes dogging up a 5.10b while a big line of people were waiting?
Are guys doing the exact same thing, but not feeling uncomfortable about it? (because they don't care?)
Or maybe guys are dogging on climbs with shorter lines. Or limiting their dogging time? (seems speculative...)
Or maybe guys who felt uncomfortable just didn't participate as much in the survey (this is called "response bias").

while staring at your sports bra.

“Ultimately [climbing] suffers from the same sexist sh#t that exists in other parts of society,” one woman wrote in the survey. “When I climb with other female friends, we often get treated very differently, whether we're condescended to, ignored, or hit on.”

And there you have it, some men are sexist beasts. others possibly extremely intelligent scientists doing research. For those with a disposition to worship the female psyche and form, the climbing gym may be considered a sacred temple by design.

Fate should be held accountable for this.

Women are completly impossible. They want you to look at them but if you do look at them you are in troubble. If you do not talk to them you are in troubble for ignoreing them. If you do talk to them you are in troubble for hitting on them. Aparently they spend an average of $100,000.00 in their lifetimes on makeup yet you are a piece of sh#t if you look at them in the gym......

I can't help but feel that if these people feel this way at a climbing gym, everyday life must be hell.

I wonder if they have the same issue over in Saudi Arabia (haha).
Some people need to grow a micro-backbone . . .

And that is a macroagression!

I just learned that total non-climber chicks go to gyms to meet guys. . . like climbing gyms are the new meat markets.

Well, that's better than cruising a bar, isn't it?

After several years of sharing tents and bivi ledges with smelly dudes from Pakistan to Patagonia I started grad school in San Francisco. I grabbed my skateboard, hopped on the 22-Fillmore and went to Mission Cliffs. I couldn't believe my eyes-- yoga tights and sport bras and tons of fit young women who actually thought climbing was fun and cool.

I'm generally a pretty low key person but I am certain I committed some lingering eyes micro aggressions. I ended up meeting my wife there!

Love this Reeotch:

Are you here all week?

I am SO sick of the micro-aggression trend. Isn't it just another name for rudeness? Don't be rude. Decent parents been teaching kids that for years. Here's a tricky one: When does an appreciative look become a micro-aggressive stare? Also, when is it OK to "hit" on a woman? Are all attempts to meet a partner to be considered micro-aggressions? Do all the males and females climb in opposite corners of a fully divided gym?

I think I have a solution: Full-on beekeeper burkas! Solves most of these problems, amiright?

That would interfere with proving their preconceived beliefs to be correct.
