The Pat Robertson wing of your party will never go for it.
Edit (and gripe): if only the national Repub party would follow the example of California and actively support moderates.

McCain/Rudy would easily defeat Hillary/Bill. I do believe McCain/Rudy will have a difficult time getting the nomination.

40% of the"Pat Robertson wing" voted Dumbocrat this election.
It's always been a myth that they are some monolithic block.
Watch for a concerted effort to smear both Mcain and Guliani by the media for the next two years.

Hmmm...I read today that 70% of evangelicals voted for Republicans this time around. http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2006/11/13/MNG23MBN531.DTL
But no matter, even if it was 40% this election, I'd wager it's been much higher past elections. The socially conservative Pat Robertson wing has been a formidable force in Republican politics the past 30 or so years. I'm not really sure why you think this point is debatable.

They'd make a strong team, but they both want to be Pres. I'd guess McCain with Senate seniority trumps Mayor NYC.

Powell/McCain in any order would be hard to beat and would get the vote of this independent.

Two adultary loving, divorce getting, socially liberal Republicans on the ticket in 2008?
Time will tell.
If the Democrats can run folks who hardly represent their values, why not the GOP?
I'll have to market a line of clothespins for folks to wear on their noses on Election Day. I'll be rich.
Once I'm rich, I'll have to consider voting Republican., cause that will be the only Republicans left, the ones who just hate taxes.
The uptight sex-moral crowd will have to find a third party.
Peace

Anyone republican that has said a word about Clinton and Lewinsky yet would vote for Giuliani is a hypocrite of pretty grotesque proportions. This guy carried on affairs for years, not minutes and hours and repeatedly lied about them. Giuliani in '08 - please. And Powell, pissed it away for what and for who? He's one of the saddest victim of the Iraq war...

I'd agree Lois, but in this case we're talking about a crowd that made a virtual jihad of the issue just a couple of years ago and this same crew will not now be able to turn it into a non-issue for Giuliani. This is another case where, just like this election showed, the people are not quite that dumb - they can smell a hypocrite just fine and in enough numbers to make difference if Giuliani is the nominee in '08.

Where I do think having affairs and lying about them is a fault, it's an understandable one, not a deal killer.
But Lois, politics is politics and (despite California electing the gropinator) doesn't turn on a dime. All those GOP "Impeach Clinton" sound-bites will be played over and over if Rudy runs.
Lois wrote
"In fairness to Bush he is not a hypocrite nor is he the "holier than thou" type. On these counts, he is not guilty. Rather, his problem is the assinine belief that because he is "saved" then God is (or must be) on his side and thus he can carry on a constellation of fantasies and delusionary dreams wherein he is a "hero." He actually means well but it is results that count."
How do you know? A Bush admin guy just wrote a book that says Bush, Rove and Crew ridicule the religious right behind their backs. Of course Bush is holier than thou and a hypocrite for condemning some countries for seeking nukes and not beling democratic while ignoring the nukes of Israel, Pakistan and India and stating a willingness to use nukes in non-nuke conflicts. The examples are endless.
Peace

Rudy...Married three times and counting...family background a little weak at best. Shows up at ground zero and all of a sudden is a national hero.
Family values....yeah right.
No wonder he is a republican.
You can have him.

So what's makes old Rudy a great leader???
His ability to lie?
