How is it that you have to driver's license and a vehichle registration to drive, but you don't have to have the equivalent to shoot?
How would knowing who has what ID'able weapons infringe upon your right to bear them?
Do a driver's license and a vehichle registration infringe upon your right to drive?
Which would more effectively cripple any US internal insurgency [keeping in mind our rate of obesity]: a) confiscating your vehicles or b) confiscating your weapons?
Total and complete bullsh#t. School shootings are just another example of our society reaping what we sew with regards to the insanity of our worldwide trade in weapons. It has nothing to do with our storied "right to bear arms" and everything to do with an unbridled greed and corruption at all levels of the weapons supply chain...
---------------------------------- Top 8 arms exporters in 2004 (US dollars)

You DO know that it is the 2nd Amendment that defends the 1st. The second amendment was created to prevent tyranny. Those that are quick to dismiss ANY part of our Constitution are short-sighted. What if it becomes out of fashion to have "free speech?"
Firearms are one of the most highly regulated things you can own. Far more regulated than automobiles. Though automobiles kill THOUSANDS of more people than firearms each year.
How about you campaign for the banning of private transportation too?

No, I dont know that. What I know is that the framers of the constitution thought it important to "bear arms". They could never foresee that assault weapons would be available at kmart, and that schoolhouse shootings would become the norm.
I am all for owning firearms, shopped handguns this weekend, but not assault weapons. Why not tightly regulate that which only serves one purpose, to kill...

The usual pattern is that first the government registers the guns, then they come for them. Look at canada.
I believe that part of the reason the founding fathers desired us to have the right to bear arms was to keep the threat of an "internal insurgency" real to those in charge. Trusting good old "W" to protect my freedoms hasn't panned out so good lately.
School shootings account for such a small number of deaths per year that you would be much safer by outlawing backyard swimming pools. That is of course assuming that the aim was to reduce the number of deaths. I'm personally of the opinion that we are overpopulated, and that we spend too much of our GDP keeping the herd growing, when really it is getting slow, fat, and sick. More culling.

I cant believe alcohol has not been mentioned yet as a huge cause either direct or indirect of death among children, drunk drivers, physical abuse, mental abuse, sexual abuse, the list goes on and on. In large numbers the person who perpetrated the crime against the child alcohol is involved. Lets outlaw alcohol.

Ok ... this might be a little shocking, but it's precisely the guns that are for KILLING that the founding fathers wanted to guarantee our access to. This fallacious argument that "Hunting guns are ok, but the founding fathers didn't expect assault weapons" drives me nuts. The founding fathers didn't expect that the government would infringe on their ability to hunt turkey or deer... they feared that the government would become tyrannical and some people would need killed. In this context, it is exactly "military" weapons that the founding fathers were guaranteeing to us.

There are likely far more deaths associated with playing jr-high or high school football each year, then there are with firearms in schools... BAN ATHLETICS!
Anyone that doesn't understand what an "assault weapon" is, has never been hit with a f*#king rock, because any weapon used to assault another person, has by it's very nature, become an ASSAULT WEAPON.
Now, to mislabel semi-auto's as assault weapons simply due to the color of the weapon, is absurb at best. I ask you, what is the difference between a semi-auto rifle and that handgun you were looking at this past weekend..? Both are easily capable of killing, yet the handgun can be easily concealed. Also, if you were looking at revolvers and still have an issue with semi-auto handguns, then you better consider a single action revolver, because a double action absolutely falls under the guidlines of a semi-auto.
The Constitution was written to allow "WE THE PEOPLE" the right to bear the same level of military weaponry as the government in which we succedded from in the first place. Had we not been allowed this right, we damn sure wouldn't have won the Revolutionary War!
I've owned dozens or AR15's, was a Class-III dealer (yes, machineguns), and my favorite weapon was my 3 position MP5...

Hey Moof,
I'm in Canada - nobody came from the government to "take our guns", that's B.S. Yes, we have to be licensed to buy and own them, Yup we have to register them and yes, handguns are not available to anyone other than law enforcement and club shooters. We also have a murder rate that, after adjusting for differences in population, is about 88% lower than in the US.
People with guns kill people. Makin' use knives, clubs and bare hands cools em out considerably. I prefer to feel safe that righteous.
