They shut down like once a week at random times. It has something to do with the upcoming "improvements".

And the aforementioned knuckleheads.

Think Dingus is right. Tim was doing a good job keeping 'er floating, but Trevor (the founder) was really into selling out.

Don't eat anywhere except in my kitchen.

It's a fact - the site got big, Trevor wanted to get out as it was more than he wanted to deal with. It's understandable.

This rat jumped the ship a while ago anyway, so whatever. RC.com is a great little place to share ideas, meet new friends, etc. I got a lot of good out of it, but the outages with regularity are pushing me away (along with kind of getting over yapping about the same things over and over - I've been on that for five years). I'd say that unless DropZone really does something good, it might be going under. There is a lot of potential there, but it hasn't been realized. I lost interest in the running of it when ::squeak:: I pitched off.

And I thought mormons weren't allowed to swear?

I have witnessed otherwise...

Yeah, the cloggage and un-userfriendlyness of it can be a bummer...but...still some gems there upon occasion...

Cheers!

I believe the sold to or merged with Skydiving.com and the real focus is on porting everything to their technology platform. Part of the plan I think is to replicate some of the RC features that SD does not currently have along with porting all the threads and content over. In the meantime RC is on lifesupport until the port is done...

Based on the way I was treated over there [banned, never told why, never given an opportunity to respond, all sorts of unfounded rumours perpetuated, etc, etc,] it would be with a sneaky sense of joy that I would see the place go under. I'll go in the pool.

And yeah, all my posts are backed up.

Pete,

Love your RC info posts but navigating and reading them is I suspect more work and pain than actually doing a wall. Clearly lots of valuable and hard-earned insight, knowledge, and info there, but it would be great to see it org'ed into a wiki or conventional web site without all the wild formatting and with a bit of editing. A lot of work I know, but the basic content is there for a pretty damn good resource. For me the issue is the way it all is right now the prospect of wallowing about in it whenever I think about it always seems a bit daunting. I always have to use "open in a new window" so I have a trail otherwise I'd be more lost than Alice down the rabbit hole...

Concur with Jody, except to say that I don't know. One of the many stories I heard [from an extremely reliable source] is that one of the admins trolled me by using a fake username. It's possible I put my foot in my mouth and said something that was enough to hang me.

But I was never told.

I offered to go back to RC.com and clean up all the stuff I wrote. I began writing there when I first "discovered" the internet. My head got a bit big. I said some stupid things. I made mistakes. I learned. I'm trying to do better now.

I avoid the use of bold text!

I briefly had my own website going with the patience and help of Theo - ahwahnee bartender - but it's just too much damn work to go through everything! So I apologize that you have to wade through the choss to find the good stuff there.

Start with the Index to Dr. Piton Stuff with the Signature Posts, and follow the links.

I may get my own website up and running one day, however this day I am going climbing.

I am extremely approachable, and I answer every single email I get. Happy to chat, or answer technical questions. Please use my regular address of peter underscore zabrok at cogeco dot see, eh? I only use the hottiemail to log on here at McTopo.

See you on El Cap soon! Channel 2, sub 10 [half of 4-20] Watch for my Crab-O-Ledge.
