Only saw the slightest mention of this in the huge Compressor Route thread. Sorry if it's a re-post.

News that actually matters from Patagonia...

Too short but well lived is still better than long and boring.

Mountains are big and humans are small. We walk among the giants, and speak of conquest, of overcoming, of heroic deeds. But in the end, we are merely tolerated, and the slightest geological hiccup is our undoing. All climbers know this. It sounds as if Carlyle was where she wanted to be, doing what she wanted to do, as we all have been. R.I.P.

so sorry to hear this. it reminds me of many near misses underneath the central tower of paine. it can come so fast for you, and there's nothing you can do.
condolences to all her friends, family, and fellow candians. ss

I met Carlyle a couple years ago in El Potrero Chico. I can't say I knew her well by any means but I thought she was a very cool gal. Fun to talk to, thoughtful, and a very skilled climber. I read about her accident while clicking through the numerous Compressor articles on the internet. Her loss is much, much bigger than a hundred bolts.
