Toni Kurz, who died on the north face of the Eiger in a early attempt, was raised in the shadow of the Watzmann. I remember that quote from the book, The White Spider.
Thats not very helpful I know.

wow, thanks.... and also for the ski stuff and locals, :)
the second link i put here, i think, mentions some skiiing, but not sure if it is the same area, or just nearby...
i loved reading all this, and really loved learning that this mt is out there, :)

i love the town there in the shot...
